12. This stuff in Cedar Falls won't hit the Quads
but we are expecting some flooding. The River is supposed to crest at around 18 ft. on Friday. 18 ft. isn't as bad as it could be. But the Wapsipinicon (Wapsi) will be affected directly and it runs into the Mississippi out by Princeton. I have fished there many times. And as I am writing this, the weatherman on KWQC is saying that the crap in Wisconsin and Northwest of here could affect us. It all just sucks. I hope you are staying dry and safe up there and let's hope that bush and co. decide that maybe this is a disaster and you all get some federal money to help out.

7. Oh we are - I'll only worry if we start seeing animals travelling two by two
:P

We're going to try to go around on the west (I think west) gravel roads to go into CF to help with the sandbagging.

If not we'll see how the rest of the neighborhood is doing, we all exchanged cell phone numbers to call if water started toward our houses. (is it still a neighborhood when we're all 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart??).

9. This is wen living at the top of a big hill (above a wetland preserve) is a great thing
I wasn't so thrilled about that two weeks ago!

We're more worried about all the folks in CF - they just told everyone from 6th Street and North to lock up their houses and GET OUT! :scared: Much more worrisome than the Debi family being stranded for a day or so.

We're going to try to go around and see if we can get over to UNI and join the sand bag brigade.

11. Stranded in Iowa
Glad you're high and dry at your house. Water is getting real close to some bridges in the IC/Coralville area. Just drove over the Clear Creek bridge on 1st Ave in Coralville and water is very high there. Makes me a little jittery to drive over all that water.

14. Stay home and stay safe!
Some morans decided to drive their car over the road by the Beaver Valley Wetlands. x(

After their car died and they pushed it halfway across we waded out to help them push it the rest of the way. (They then informed us that they had to get to Center Street, we told them that Cedar Wapsie drive was under water and they were stuck. They told us they would swim across.....)

There are some people that you just can't help....*sigh*

13. In Decorah, my old home town, they are letting pedestrians
and bicyclists across the town bridges but not cars. Is this a hint of what a greener world would look like? Here in Maquoketa, we have not had any flooding to speak of but Lock and Dam # 12 by Bellevue may be affected. (Misissippi). Keep safe, Debi Clan. You should be keeping a journal of all your weather traumas to later on be published. Something like Daniel DeFoe's Journal of the Plague and the Fire!

15. HA! You just know they'd stick in in the fiction section at the Barnes and Noble
Who would believe all the craziness!

Just got back from 2 hours of sand bag stacking by the water treatment center in Cedar Falls (we had to drive up through New Hartford to get from our place in Cedar Falls - 23 mile detour!) Man...I am out of shape and exhausted!

We're ready for any power shut down - don't plan on seeing any water in our home since Beaver Creek has gone back in it's banks for the most part. Now we're waiting for the Cedar River to crest and go back down. Then all these poor folks have to start the icky clean up.

16. Wow, Debi....
It sounds like you guys are situated on high ground, and that is a relief! I hope you
guys have everything that you need, and that this darn water doesn't go up any higher.

We're supposed to get bad storms Wed p.m.-Thurs a.m.---but maybe that won't translate into
more disaster. I hope so.

I'm amazed at how widespread the flooding is across the state. So many areas of the
state are affected.

Take care everyone...keep dry and safe!

We need a row-boat smilie!

19. So glad the Debi's are safe ...
but sorry you're stranded ... hope the worst is over soon for you all.

The Cairycat family lives just outside the evacuated area in CF - a block further east or north, and I wouldn't be writing this. The only deprivation we had to deal with was no internet last night.

My two sons and I went to fill sandbags late last night - we didn't stay real long but filled quite a few. It was a good lesson, I think, for my guys to see people working together like that, and pitch in themselves.

May all the Iowa DUers stay safe and dry! Makes you wonder what the *!#$ is up with these floods, but at least people pull together to help each other out.

21. Hey Cairycat! We were sandbagging over on the levy off the trail
off of State Street - where were you? Not that we'd ever have found each other with all the people downtown (Just found out my uncle was filling bags, we probably walked right past him on our way up to the levy).

We got into town by taking gravel roads up to New Hartford and then moving street to street to find a way through over to HWY 57 .

I'm proud of all of Cedar Falls for the organization of the project and the folks who came out. We worked with high school kids, college proffessors and Kamyar Enshayan AND ran into one of Debi, Jr.'s best friend's mom! I told Mr. Debi that if we were 20 years younger we would have gone back down around midnight and done another shift (instead we picked up a broasted chicken from Fareway, ate and passed out!).

Glad to hear you weren't in any danger :hi:

24. My mom is in C.F. ...
She was planning to head up to see us in the Twin Cities this weekend, but it is sounding less likely as there seems to be few roads out of C.F.

She has lived in Cedar Falls for most of the past 38 years (and Waterloo for ten years before that) and said she has seen nothing like this (she is dry and safe). I'm going to dig out the old films of the late '60s Waterloo floods tonight.

Stay safe and dry everyone, we're thinking of you (and hope to be down for Sturgis Falls).

Sturgis Falls? Wonder where they'll hold it - Gates Park is completely under water and that's where they've held it in the past when Island and Tourist Parks were unavailable (Have you seen the pics of the Boat House?

29. Years ago ... maybe '93 ...
... they set up a bunch of it at UNI, just north of the Dome between the PEC and parking lots. I remember that's where the bands were playing, at least.
