DES MOINES --- Citizens will be able to report violations of the new public smoking ban to a statewide hotline when the ban takes effect July 1.
The general public can call the hotline, which will not be active until June 15, at 1-888-944-2247.
The Iowa Department of Public Health launched a Web site Monday morning detailing how it will enforce the ban enacted by state lawmakers and signed by Iowa Gov. Chet Culver in April.

The site contains background on the law and a draft of the smoking ban rules.
Citizens can access the site at
http://www.iowasmokefreeair.gov/.The Web site allows business owners to download "no smoking" signs to post at all entrances to non-smoking areas, as required by the law.

The department will enforce the ban by investigating complaints it receives through the new Web site, over the hotline or through the mail.
