Bush protesters awarded $750,000

CEDAR RAPIDS - A federal jury has awarded two President George W. Bush campaign rally protesters $750,000 for being illegally strip-searched at the Linn County Jail in 2004.

The eight-member jury deliberated almost four hours in the U.S. District Court of Northern Iowa civil case of protesters, Alice McCabe and Christine Nelson versus Bruce Macauley, a secret service agent, and Michelle Mais, a former Linn County jailer.

McCabe was awarded $250,000 and Nelson $500,000 for losses and harms Mais caused by strip-searching the women against county policy. The women were charged with a simple misdemeanor, which doesn't warrant a strip-search.

Unfortunately, the Secret Service agent was found not liable, only the jailer.

I remember this case well. I knew they could get this kind of settlement if they kept going...but now it is 2008, and not 2004. I think that was the bush campaign plan all along. This type of crap happened all over the country.
