Some holiday Skinny for you Hardrada
http://www.dmcityview.com/skinny.shtml

Another first for Skinny: We mention Ashton Kutcher

<snip>

Skinny also would like to be sitting at the breakfast table with Fred and Charlotte Hubbell when they get into politics. Fred Hubbell gave $2,300 to Chris Dodd, while his wife gave the same amount to Barack Obama. Skinny admires Fred Hubbell’s ideology, but admires his wife’s political instincts even more. The Harry Bookeys — whose daughter works for Obama — are big Obama contributors as well, so Skinny was a little surprised when he read in The Wall Street Journal that Dodd and Joe Biden were often seen at Bookey’s Centro Restaurant — but there was no mention of Obama. Perhaps he’s eating in the Bookey kitchen on 51st Street.

Another surprise of sorts: Steve Zumbach and Jim Cownie, movers and shakers generally identified with the Republican Party (Cownie’s son is running for the Legislature as a Republican), each gave $2,300 to Hillary Clinton, as, of course, did former governor Tom Vilsack, who along with his wife is campaigning hard for Clinton. (We didn’t see a Culver contribution anywhere, but the reports are for giving through Sept. 30. The Federal Election Commission won’t issue the next report, for the current quarter, until the end of January. We did find a $2,300 contribution to Clinton from Ruth Harkin, a “self-employed attorney,” though that came from her address in Alexandria, Va., not from the family homestead in Cumming.)

Finally, we could find only three people in the state — one in Cedar Rapids, one at the University of Iowa, and one in Fort Dodge — who gave money to Mike Gravel, which shows the level-headedness of Iowans.

<snip>

Over at The New York Post, gossip columnist Cindy Adams was having a field day with Iowa and Iowans. One column last week began: “WHO the hell cares about Iowa? Barring a caucus every few years, who even thinks of Iowa. All it’s ever brought us is corn, Herbert Hoover, the Wright Brothers, Ashton Kutcher and ‘The Music Man.’ Its main attraction is an airport in Des Moines that gets you out. And this state with less people than I have in my kitchen is determining the future of our most powerful nation on Earth?” Then she got nasty. (Miss Adams, for those of you younger than, say, Methuselah, is the gossip-writing widow of comedian Joey Adams. Ask your grandparents.) Skinny, who often confuses the Wright Brothers with the Everly Brothers, admits he didn’t know the Wright Brothers once lived in Cedar Rapids, and can only assume that Adams knew that because they were childhood friends.

Don’t worry. Soon it will all be over and Skinny can get back to true investigative reporting. Our first task: Measuring Cindy Adams’ kitchen. CV

++++

1. Good for Cindy Adams
If it keeps NY post readers from visiting Iowa we can keep our secret safe.

3. For another laugh at New Yorkers in Iowa
The funniest article I have read yet about the 2008 caucuses was written about the escapades of some New York bundlers for Clinton descending on Ames, Iowa to enlighten us. They were hilarious and struck out left and right:

4. You see what happens when I'm not paying attention!
I really have to get to Des moines more often. Actually I have been delighted over the long years that so many people think Iowa is Nowheresville. Otherwise we'd have even more farmland turned into townhouses and strip malls.

5. Ugh, I hear ya!
All us DUers need to win the lottery, buy up the land and hold it in reserve or turn it into nature preserve before we lose what little we have left! All around me people are re-zoning and building. Hey, I got a great heard of deer on my land now, they have nowhere else to go!

Happy Holidays Hardrada and to Mrs. H - or should I say Frohe Feiertage?
