Sorry Debi, I'm in mourning too.

Top-ranked UNI falls to Delaware

Northern Iowa had it all: The No. 1 seed, homefield advantage, a near-capacity crowd and 16 dedicated seniors determined to lead the Panthers back to the Football Championship Subdivision national title game.

With three key plays, Delaware took it all away, 39-27, during the FCS quarterfinals Saturday afternoon in the UNI-Dome.

The 13th-ranked Blue Hens turned a pair of UNI fumbles into 10 points and used a 44-yard heave-and-hope pass to set up another touchdown as they sent the top-ranked Panthers (12-1) to defeat for the first time this season.

"That was the last time walking off the field in this uniform," said Panther senior quarterback Eric Sanders. "It's gonna hurt. It's gonna hurt for a long time.

"It's not the outcome we wanted, but it wasn't because of a lack of effort."

3. The weather was SO BAD that we almost didn't go!
Mr. Debi is off hunting so it was just Debi, Jr. and me at home. I didn't want to go out but Debi, Jr. insisted. I'm glad we went to cheer on our team and to see that Del. quarterback (who was AMAZING).

I :loveya: the UNI Panthers and will miss going to the games! What a great great great team!

4. Blue Hens! They lost to the BLUE HENS for goodness sakes
Blue Hens don't exactly inspire fear to the very core.
Well thanks to the Panthers for a fun season. Gonna be tough to repeat with all their graduations.

5. The Blue Hens quarterback kicks ass
and I'm sure the UNI defense will agree with that.

What a year, I'm sure we aren't gonna see one like it for a while.

My Dad called me at the game and said 'What kind of an idiot goes to a football game in the middle of an ice storm?' I said 'Me and 15,000 other UNI fans!'

6. Job opportunity for Debi
Nebraska Football Fan Instructor, after reading your posts I believe you have a solid sensible respect for the sport. National champion or death can't be healthy for a fan.

7. NEBRASKA?
That's almost as bad as being a fan of ISU!! x(

You know, a high school career of cheer leading doesn't just go away. It'll take decades to calm me down :bounce:

(I'm from Montana - the season the Montana State University Bobcats won the National Championship - 1984 - they had to plow the snow off the field for each of the play-off games! Frostbite..not a big sacrifice for your team!)
