Indianapolis - Music and other specialty programs are falling victim to state-ordered budget cuts at school districts throughout the state.

Monroe County schools have voted to eliminate an elementary school strings program, and Tippecanoe School Corp. officials voted this week to cut half the district's art, music and physical education teachers.

Indianapolis Public Schools is considering reducing the number of music classes and having regular teachers provide music instruction to the youngest students.

Indiana State School Music Association executive director Rusty Briel says cutting music is shortsighted because it has a profound, positive effect on a child's learning.

Rightwingers hate arts and music for the masses.
