DIGEST OF INTRODUCED BILL
Reserve police officer training. Requires after June 30, 2009, a police reserve officer to successfully complete the basic training required for other law enforcement officers in order to exercise police powers. Prohibits a police reserve officer appointed before July 1, 1993, or a police reserve officer who completed a pre-basic training course before July 1, 2008, from exercising police powers after June 30, 2009, unless the officer successfully completes the basic training requirements.
http://www.in.gov/apps/lsa/session/billwatch/billinfo?year=2008&session=1&request=getBill&docno=1029 -- I am opposed to this bill because if they are going to requirer people who volunteer, for part time if not less, to be subjected to the same training as full time officers then they need to 1)Pay for that training and 2)no longer classify them as volunteers but certified law enforcement 3)with pay and benefits.
Please write your rep and encourage them to OPPOSE HC 1029.
