I'm tossing my hat in the ring and (finally) running for office myself!
Yep, DUer Speedway Democrat is running for Town Council in....wait for it...SPEEDWAY!
Yes, that's right! I'm bypassing a chance to serve on the Indianapolis City-County Council (too much in-fighting, not enough action) for a long-shot gig at running Speedway. As we don't have a Mayor, I figure this is as close as I can get to running things as they should be run (By the People AND For the People - ALL of the People - not just the ones that vote Republican't!).

Currently run by five old Republicans who are apparently very litigation-happy, I figure it's about time we got a Democratic candidate on the ballot in red, red Speedway! And I'm working to find four other Democratic candidates to run with me, as all 5 seats are up for election and two of the five (R) incumbents are NOT running again.

We swept Wayne Township in last fall's elections (a first since 1974), and now we're COMING TO SAVE THE TOWN OF SPEEDWAY! (Do you think I'll need a cape and a pair of leotards to complete my Super Hero costume? ha ha)

Will share more details with you all on Thursday.

I used to live in Speedway and worked at B&W Plumbing back in the 80's. Speedway looks like it has shifted toward a more democratic base than back then. I think you've got a good shot a tossing the republicans out.

Speedway is changing - it's more of a pinkish/purple shade instead of die-hard Red.
If I can swing the apartment dwellers vote, I've got a real shot at it. They feel like second-class citizens right now, thanks to the litigation-happy council deciding they have no rights at all. The law enforcement of the ordinance is on hold, pending an appeal that will never pass.
Meanwhile, the legal billing clock keeps ticking and their lawyers of choice continue to rake in the money, defending a law that should have never been passed. That's money that could have gone to the schools or public safety, etc.
My official announcement is tonight at 7 PM at the Wayne Township Democratic Club meeeting.
