Alligator Seized in Indy Drug Bust

:wtf: Ok, perhaps it's spring fever but I can't seem to read the news anymore without finding these absolutely ridiculous snippets - all of them reflections on our esteemed Hoosier legislature (past and present). It's starting to feel like we're living 'The Onion'.

In custody: suspect, big dog, tiny dog, alligator
Narcotics detectives discover all 4 when serving a warrant

Alligators aren't likely to replace large-jowled dogs as the preferred protection critter, but Indianapolis detectives this week encountered one of those reptiles while serving a search warrant at a Northside residence.

They also came upon a brindle mastiff -- a dog that weighs 150 to 175 pounds -- and his buddy, a Shih Tzu, a breed that runs about 15 pounds.

Narcotics detectives from the Indianapolis Police Department's North District served a search warrant on Fennell's residence in the 3500 block of North Illinois Street late Tuesday. According to a police report, they found suspected marijuana, five firearms, ammunition, money and the three creatures.

Fennell, whose next court date is Monday, or a representative can reclaim the animals within 15 days of when they were seized -- after fees and fines have been settled.

It's legal in Indiana to have an unregistered alligator,
 if it is less than 4 feet long, but Fennell will have to pay to have both dogs micro-chipped and prove they have required vaccinations.

2. Why don't you have to microchip your gator?
If cats and dogs require them, then why not exotic animals? I mean - if he gets out for a stroll around the neighborhood, how do you prove he's yours? (just kidding...)
Actually, if he's like Wally Gator, all he's going to do is fish, hunt and watch NASCAR anyway...

3. What about vaccinations ? Spaying/neutering?
If folks have to have 'em for doggies ... last thing I'd want would be a litter of baby gators in the 'hood ...
