"We need to withdraw immediately. Even our own generals tell us that our presence there is only making things worse. Mr. Bush has violated the public trust in his snake-oil sales pitch for support for his invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation whose only fault was to suspend the sale of its oil in protest of the crippling sanctions that it was under. It is no secret that Mr. Bush was itching for regime change in Baghdad even before the twin towers were hit on 9/11 giving him the “Pearl Harbor” event that the PNAC said he needed to drum up support for his war, and the Downing Street Minutes document the fact that at least from July of 2002, he was illegally seeking support for his war from Blair's Britain, and stepping up bombing there without just cause or authorization from Congress or the UN. Due to this violation of public trust, he must resign or face impeachment. If a president can be impeached for lying about an extramarital affair, certainly one can be impeached for his violation of the public trust in luring us into an unnecessary, immoral, unjustifiable and illegal war. Should we withdraw from Iraq? Hell, yes! I invite all who share these or similar sentiments to stand with me in advertising for Peace on the first Saturday of each month, from noon to one, at the Fort Wayne courthouse green."
I was glad they published it, and included the ad for the peace rallies. I was upset that they changed "Mr. Bush" to "President Bush," and deleted the connection between '"Pearl Harbor" event' and 'PNAC.'
Something is better than nothing. I think they are willing to publish this type of letter, because it causes public controversy and sells papers - so let's keep it up!
