Poll indicates slight lead for Daniels, but many undecided
MIKE SMITH

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS - President Bush has a big advantage over John Kerry among Indiana voters, according to a new poll, and Republican gubernatorial candidate Mitch Daniels has a slight lead over Democratic Gov. Joe Kernan.

That Bush was the favorite in Indiana was no surprise. That Daniels is leading in this poll seems worth noting, too, but so is the fact that 41 percent of respondents are undecided.

Of 852 registered voters surveyed by telephone from July 8 through July 12, 32 percent said they intended to vote for Daniels, 26 percent favored Kernan, and 41 percent said they did not know. One percent named someone else.

The poll showed President Bush with a sizable lead over presumptive Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, 46 percent to 27 percent with about 26 percent undecided.

2. Maybe not
Despite the spin, the jobs situation here is a fucking mess. Kernan might lose simply because of that.

3. Go Figure
Bush screws the country over, and Kernan takes the fall.

4. Voters sometimes have a tendancy to blame all incumbents, regardless of
party when the economy is not doing well.

7. Perhaps... but I don't see a similar
backlash brewing against congressional or state representatives... just against Kernan.

5. Ultimately Hoosier Like to think they're independent
So many will split their vote if they feel the Democrat is worthy. That middle 40% don't want to be button holed as either Republican or Democrat. They enjoy voting so much, they don't want to pull just a single lever. That's why I think Kernan has such a good chance. The fact that "My Bitch Mitch" doesn't have a bigger lead is very bad news for him.
