Capitol vandalized; 24 arrested
Just not a real bright move, IMO ... I wondered at first if it was a set-up by the other side. Hoosier patriot/RW freaks are going to be even more hostile to anything us 'hippie liberals' might have to say thanks to these idiots.

Police arrested 24 demonstrators Saturday as suspects in the spray-painting of slogans on the Statehouse critical of the planned I-69 extension. One woman was subdued with a Taser after she jumped on the back of a Capitol Police officer, police said.

At least 10 of those arrested do not live in Indiana. State Police 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten described some of the demonstrators as "protesters for hire."

"These are 20-something kids with nothing better to do," Bursten said. "I'd say some of them never even heard of I-69 before today."

Slogans were spray-painted on the limestone surrounding the outside doorway on the north side of the Statehouse and on marble colonnades just inside the doorway. One outside message read, "I-69 is the enemy" in red paint. Another read, "No I-69" in green paint.

2. None of that perverted talk, young man !
This is an upstanding, God fearing, family values state ... we would NEVER speak of - or partake in - such ... unnatural behavior here in the fine state of Indiana !!

3. Well, I'm not the only one. Get a load of this if you haven't seen
it:

"John Hostettler, the Congressman representing the 8th district of Indiana, has been convinced by local religious groups to introduce legislation in the House that would change the name of an Interstate 69 extension to a more moral sounding number."

http://www.hoosiergazette.com/News/Nov2004/news003.htm

I think they should change it to "I-666" don't you? The Repukes will probably want I-911.

4. Don't let the rw define who you are
Surely the liberals in Indiana aren't just for the I 69 extension (is it going from Nap Town to Evansville, by any chance?). In fact, have any big liberal groups in the state been talking about this?

If you are in any political group who is tarred with this "wild irresponsible" brush, make sure in a statement you say your group had nothing to do with this, then say what your group is about. If it is connected with not extending the interstate, talk along these lines:

We don't think it would be a good idea to continue I 69 becaue it will destroy farmlands important to our economy, cause pollution, not solve traffic problems (or its unnecessary waste of taxpayer money as adequate roads already in place)--and who is really going to benefit from its construction?

The Enviro/Left conscious among us have been saying that ...
over and over and over again ... and the big-business 'we want federal funds who cares about family farms' folks still tar us all with the tree hugging anti-progress hippie brush.

Many people here think very definitely in terms of absolutes - their brains don't seem to be advanced enough to understand complexities or nuances.

5. Probably RW Christian Fundies.......
They are all upset with the I-69 because they see it as a sexual obscenity and want the number changed. Just wait till they all get the word that 666 was mistranslated and is really 616.

9. The damage that I-69 will cause far exceeds the damage of graffiti
We cannot preach respect for the law when the biggest lawbreakers in our nation's history are in power at the federal and state levels. We are at war, and we are quickly becoming another Lebanon. Let's hope we are better prepared than the other side for what is to come!

BTW, don't ever believe a word in the Indianapolis Star. From my own personal experience, they will distort any story in order to advance their rightwing point of view.

12. You know that, and I know that ...
... but the 3-brain-celled sheeple that make up the large majority of this state believe what they read (or what they have read to them) in the Star or what they hear on the 'Star-wanna-be' newscasts.

Josh Medlin among 24 arrested; 2 others from area also involved

Staff and wire reports

An Earlham College student's protests aren't limited to the Richmond campus.

Josh Medlin of Lynn was among 24 people arrested Saturday following a demonstration against proposed expansion of Interstate 69 in Indianapolis.

Lynn faces charges for throwing a pie at conservative speaker William Kristol during a March 29 speech at Earlham.

On Saturday, police arrested 24 people from at least six states and charged them with disorderly conduct following the Statehouse demonstration that attracted an estimated 40 people.
