A Very Sad Story at ISU- Olamide Adeyooye
Edited on Wed Oct-26-05 03:47 AM by tritsofme
Dental results expected today

NORMAL - After some delays Monday, Normal police mailed the dental records of a missing Illinois State University student to Mississippi on Tuesday morning for comparison with a body found Friday in a burned-out chicken house.
Mississippi authorities told Normal police they will have results from the dental comparison by this afternoon.

Normal police Lt. Mark Kotte said the height and range of the body of a black female in Mississippi match that of Olamide Adeyooye, 21. He said several Normal investigators have been sent to Newton County, Miss..

Mark Kotte said there was a delay in mailing the records to Mississippi because they were in storage. Police did not already have the records on hand because they needed parental consent to release them.

"We didn't want to alarm them without any reason to alarm," Kotte said.

1. So sad...
I was struck by seomthing. Last night I was watching "Scarborough Country"--I don;t usually, not sure why I was--but, as JOe was going on and on about "Natalee", the scroll said that Olamide's body had been found. I couldn't help but wonder why a pretty blonde girl from Alabama who disappeared while partying in Aruba is worth a whole segment, while a pretty black woman working her way through school, planning on grad school, who disappears from a university campus is worth a "scroll".

Maybe I'm touchy because I'm an ISU alum, or maybe it's just wrong!

Either way, my prayers are with her family.

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) -- Friends and classmates mourned the death of an Illinois State University senior as authorities continued investigating how the missing woman's body ended up in a burned-out chicken coop in Mississippi.

Authorities said dental records confirmed Wednesday that the remains were those of 21-year-old Olamide Adeyooye, who was last seen two weeks ago renting a movie at a video store near her off-campus apartment.

"You always hear about stuff like that on the news but it never hits close to home," said Adeyooye's friend, Rick Paterala, 23, of Schaumburg. "She was a great person." An autopsy performed Oct. 21 "did not reveal the cause of death," said Delores Lewis, a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

A native of Nigeria who moved to suburban Chicago when she was 8, Adeyooye was last seen Oct. 13 at a video store near her off-campus apartment in Normal. Her car, a green 1996 Toyota Corolla, was still missing.
