Commercial News: City's people among its best assets
http://www.commercial-news.com/

"DANVILLE — Frank Luzenske was a college student from St. Louis in the early 1950s when several classmates told him about their hometown: Danville.

Luzenske and a friend decided on a road trip to central Illinois to see the city his classmates talked about. Today, almost a half-century later, he says that one trip to the Vermilion County seat was all it took to turn the big city native into a Danville resident.

“I liked Danville right away,” Luzenske said. “I liked the people. I wouldn’t live anyplace else.”

At a time everyone is on the go with family, friends and work, local residents, as well as visitors and short-timers, happily shared what they like about Danville."

I really don't mean to be condescending, but is this really news? I mean this is the Danville Newspaper. Maybe if they were covering some other city in Vermilion County, that might be different, but come on. This is a Danville paper saying, "You know what's great? Living right here! Don't you even think about moving!".

1. You fancy-pants librul elitist.
Insulting the values of small-town America, you sherry-swilling, French-loving, opera-watching limousine liberal!

Seriously, though, I've noticed in Rockford, too, articles extolling the virtues of living in the city. Rockford's experienced barely 5% growth over the last fifteen years, much of it due to flight to the neighboring communities and the suburbs. Think of those articles as a boost to civic pride, such as it is.

2. So how is Doug Scott's campaign going?
Do you think he will have a rough time?

The Ogle County Democrats just gave him some money for his fundraiser. One of our county board members wants us to go help him campaign, too.

3. He's started advertising hardcore recently.
I think it's going to be a tough race, though. I don't see the Republican candidate, Gloria Cardenas Cudia, being much of a factor in the race, it's going to be, at the end, Scott and independent Larry Morrissey. Scott's got to go out their and shore up his base, cause Morrissey is heavily courting the African-American vote and he's made some inroads. It's going to be close, and I'm not willing to bet on one or the other at this point.
