Chicago Tribune: School orders mom to spank son--or else
http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/content/education/chi-0503060429mar06,1,4211570.story?coll=chi-news-hed

"A 6-year-old boy who often talked too much in class was suspended from 1st grade at Schaumburg Christian School last week after his mother refused to spank him.

Chandler Scott Fallaw, a rambunctious boy, had been piling up disciplinary notes for talking, chewing gum, bringing toys to class and not finishing classwork, said his mother, Michelle Fallaw-Gabrielson. "By no means is my child perfect," she acknowledged.

But she never anticipated the ultimatum delivered at school Wednesday.

When she arrived to pick up Chandler, she said, assistant administrator Linda Moreau told her the school needed assurances that the boy would be disciplined. "She said, `Either he gets a spanking before he leaves today, or I'm suspending him,'" Fallaw-Gabrielson recalled."

How bad can the Schaumburg public schools be?!?!

2. Right, my question is why isn't she sending her kid to public school
How bad can the public schools be that she sends her kid to this wacko Christian school?

3. Ahh...sorry
a little slow on the draw this morning

AFAIK Schaumburg public schools are excellent...but you don't need a really good reason to be a wacko

Lots of 'fringe' Christian schools sprouting up in that area

7. What really gets the paren't solution to this mess.
Pull the kid out of school and home school the rest of the remiander of the school year. Okay that's pretty much what I would have done.

but then...,

Plan to enroll the kid in different private Christian school next year.

Same shit, different venue. What's the point?

4. OK
For one, Schaumburg is one of the more affluent suburbs - the public schools are fine out there.

Second, did the mother do anything about those discipline notes? I'll agree that this forced spanking is too much, but at some point, mom and dad have to do something about their kid as well. I mean, surely they can keep him from bringing toys to class or something.

5. She should have slapped the school administrator instead
and asked her how she liked it and if she was sure that was the way to treat other human beings.

8. Schaumburg public schools are among the best in the state,
My children attended District 54 elementary schools, and I have been nothing but satisfied with the quality of education.

Frankly, living in this area and sending your children to a private school seems rather absurd.
