Liberal talk on its way back (maybe)
http://www.suntimes.com/output/feder/cst-fin-feder251.html

Liberals rejoice: Chicago finally could be getting a "progressive talk" radio station showcasing such prominent voices as Jerry Springer, Al Franken and Ed Schultz.

Nothing is official yet, but the bosses of an AM station in the market are shooting to launch the format by March 31 -- the one-year anniversary of Air America Radio's aborted attempt to bring its left-wing syndicated lineup to Chicago listeners.

1. I welcome them as "opposition radio"
I really am convinced they are all opposition to Bush.

I am not so sure about all them having progressive philosophies... but then who the heck gets to award the progressive's seal of good broadcasting anyway?

3. The political pendulum swings both ways
It's had to have reached fully to the right by now, and hopefully will gain momentum back to the center.

Perhaps that momentum will carry the American viewpoint past the center to the left side of the spectrum.

Maybe in my lifetime I'll be able to hear a pundit spit out the word "conserative" as if he was labeling someone a pedophile.

4. I wish it would be AAR--Unflitered and Mike Malloy are
great shows and often dropped when some local programmer decides to make a liberal station. The station you describe would be better than what we have now though, that is for sure.

Do you have contact info for the station-to-be? Thanks.

5. Set Your Dials For 1690
The word is this is where you'll find AAR programming...finally...replacing Uncle Lar and Little Tommy on April 1.

This is a relatively new station with a decent 10,000 signal during the day that covers most of the city pretty well...downtown will be a problem. Night time, the signal goes down to 1,000 watts, but still carries pretty well throughout the city and the south and southwest burbs.

I hope this station looks at doing some local programming and voices to give it a much needed local sound and presence.
