Pantagraph: Democrats urged to help party's image
http://www.pantagraph.com/stories/013005/new_20050130013.shtml

NORMAL -- The Democratic party stands at a pivotal moment in its history because Americans have started to believe Republicans' misrepresentations about Democrats, Glenn Poshard told about 175 Twin City Democrats.

Since the 1980s, the Republican Party has told America that Democrats are un-Christian, unpatriotic and wasteful spenders, he said.

And with President Bush's re-election it's clear "this year they bought it hook, line and sinker," he said, urging the McLean County Democrats to better explain the truths of the party.

"Don't shrink back," said the former U.S. Congressman from Southern Illinois who was the Democrat's 1998 candidate for governor."

This is a good article and I'm glad events like this are happening. Poshard wasn't the best politican, but he seems to hit it on the head here. Perhaps if he would have been this clear during his campaign, he would have won. Then again, I think George Ryan winning helped the Democrats more than Poshard winning ever could.
