Obama may turn out to be the first Black Senator with clout

Barack Obama -- who, just a year ago, was a little-known state senator from the South Side of Chicago -- is gaining the rock-star status that envelops politicians who exude a certain charm and charisma. Like Bill Clinton (news - web sites) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites), he draws cheering, clapping throngs who want to share a photo, get an autograph, touch the hem of his garment.

Having bested several opponents to win the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate from Illinois, he vaulted into the ranks of political superstars with an inspiring -- occasionally soaring -- speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Now, coasting along with a 40-plus-point lead over his GOP opponent, Alan Keyes (news - web sites), he is expected to easily win election. He will be the third black American since Reconstruction to enter the world's most exclusive club -- and its lone black member currently. (Since Keyes is also black, the U.S. Senate gets another black member regardless of outcome.)

1. We have something the republicans don't have, a future.
Obama WILL be the first Black President, he will be a great president.

We have such a bright future ahead of us.

An Edwards presidency, possibily Dean in a VP roll, somewhere.

And then Obama and many are clamering for Hillary.

I love being a Democrat, there are so many stars under our tent.

6. I don't want Hillary tarnishing Obama
If she is the nominee, she would only be interested in using Obama and his popularity to help her out. I think he is smart enough to know that there is no way that Hillary can possibly win the election in 2008, and he would only damage his own future by associating himself with her.

4. The repukes will be all over Obama. Trying to set him up with some
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:29 AM by bushisanidiot
fake scandal that will come back to haunt him if he decides to run for prez. He's going to be a huge target. I'm not that worried though, because he seems like a decent guy who won't fall for all the temptation that will be thrown at him by repuke operatives.
