Coming to Chicago
Hello.

Some friends and I will be coming to Chicago this weekend (one of my friends has a convention to go to and we thought we would tag along).

While this isn't so much a political action question, where do you all recommend as a fun place for three 26 yr old guys to have some fun on Friday/Saturday night? We are all Democrats and would like to keep good company while we are there, but we definitely want to do some partying!

Thanks!

1. welcome!
depends on where you're located. Downtown there are lots of bars and night clubs with live music places to go to. If that's what you're looking for, stick around Rush Street. Lots of different places to go within easy walking distance. There are lots of different areas that have pockets of more ecletic places to go, geared more twoards a specific clientle, but are also great to go to. Way too many to list, but Chicago has a large and diverse party scene. Go to www.metromix.com to find out more about places to go.

3. Most of Rush/Division Irish bars have OBAMA signs!
I live two blocks north of there so you'll feel at home. Try the Zebra Lounge around the corner for a different atmosphere..north on State Parkway around the corner on division.

2. Pick up the Chicago Reader
It is free, and you can find it in record shops, some restaurants and in news stands. It is a thick, one inch newspaper, folded in half. It has EVERYTHING city and suburb oriented.

It is thick, but that's because there is sooooo much to do.

Theater, jazz, blues, rock, punk, grunge, country, classical, opera, sheakespeare - all the schedules for the weekend.
The Reader also talks about other events, even bar nights and bar related concerts.
The bar scene is so huge, the trouble will be picking it. A safe, fun, but not the most exciting choice is Navy Pier. Tons of choices, decent fud, nice fireworks each night. Even better, the view of the city is fantastic.

One suggestion. Go to the bar at the Hancock building on the 96th floor. Buy a drink. The vista is unbelievable. On a clear night, you can see indiana and Michigan across lake michigan. DO NOT EAT AT THE RESTAURANT on 95. way expensive, poor taste, snotty service.

4. depending on your preferences, uptown can be fun, too
Southside has authentic blues, as does downtown, near north. Jazz is hot and alive in many places.

Chinatown during the day is great fun. Then again, mere people watching on Michigan Avenue is a blast. Start at the Water Tower and walk south. When you get tired, go to a bar, then, head back.

Art Institute is a great place to pick up fun people. Also, has the best art collection in the US. An AWESOME place. Field Museum is incredible. Say hi to Sue. The Shedd aquarium (yes fishies) has an oceanarium that makes you think that Lake Michigan is right in front of you. incredible place. Also, the observatory has neat shows.

WE also have great microbreweries. The original is Berghoffs. It's ok. not great. There are better ones slightly north, Goose Island is always populated by singles. And the beer is fine, just fine.

7. Thanks!
Thanks for the help...I am actually working tonight but I will have to take some time to check out the chicago reader website. I did check out the metromix website last night, but daaang its a lot of info.

I like the Jazz/Blues scene, but I am not too sure that my friends do. I am sure we will most likely all be able agree on the more modern dance/hip-hop/R&B type joints..

We want to check out the aquarium, probably on Sunday, we all have heard that its amazing.

You guys are great, if you get any more ideas post em!
