Micro Brew fans, tomorrow is Dark Lord Day at Three Floyds Brewery
in Munster Indiana. It seems like the weather in the afternoon might get rough, so if you are interested in drinking beers from all over the world, this is your gig.

I'll be there around 10AM. The Pub Opens at 11AM. That is where walk ins will have the best crack at the several varieties of Dark Lord Brewed. Dark Lord is considered among the top 3 beers in the world. It is a Russian Imperial stout that makes Guiness taste like water.

The event is not limited to Dark Lord by any means. There will be hundreds of varieties available.

Hope to see you, I'll have a Barak Shirt on.

Best,
Scuba

2. It was a blast! Here is a short list of the brews I tried!

New Holland Dragon's Milk
Flossmoor Station Killer Kapowski
Southern Tier Gemini
Southern Tier Heavy Weizen
Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout
Hopping Frog B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Imperial Oatmeal Stout
Dark Horse Plead the 5th Imperial Stout
De Dolle Extra Export Stout (the belgian stout)
Tröegs Nugget Nectar
2009 DarkLord
Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout
Dogfish Head Olde School Barleywine
Unibroue Blanche de Chambly
Great Lakes Blackout Stout
Avery The Czar Imperial Stout
Excellent homebrew IPA
Excellent homebrew Imperial Stout
Doubtless I missed a few too!

The best thing though was the people. We all brought and shared. I met people from Minnesota, Georgia, Pittsburg, Kentucky, and others I don't remember, but they all shared!

These events are not to be missed for real beer lovers. If you are interested there are great groups out there. Beeradvocate has a great Chicago group. Meetups are really fun, but make sure to bring your designated driver.

Best,

Scuba

3. I Have GOTTA Meet You At One Of These
We haven't seen one another in YEARS! And every report you put here sounds great.

PM me in advance the next time you hear of one of these and we'll make plans. Remember i'm an old man with MS and i live WAY south.

But, if there's something down this way, or in a place like Munster, please let me know.

It'll be fun to see you again.

5. that would be awesome.
tell them that the far north side has a great little spot for them. they just opened something called the hop haus in the shopping mall up here. about the only hoppy thing there is the name. it is really more of a sports bar. they have a few good beer in bottles, but only american piss ale on tap. and the decor is both ugly and disgusting.
so, we still need a good brew pub up here. i drive to goose island once or twice a week just for the beer. it is about 20 minutes away.

6. True. But even though it's not a brew pup The Hopleaf is still the my favorite northside spot.
Revolution Brewing is under construction in Logan Square. It's the people who own the Handlebar on North Ave. and I believe one of em used to brew at Goose Island. http://revbrew.com/

Thanks for the info about the Hop Haus. I was going to give it a try. it's not far from my work.

7. i like the hopleaf, but
it is damn hard to get a drink in that place. i used to go there after a figure drawing workshop down that way. even on a wednesday night, it could get crowded, and you could be reduced to begging.
i have only been a couple of times since they put in the restaurant. one of those times i left after sitting at the bar for almost half an hour without getting served. dh and i have been there many times, tip well, get on with the folks, even though they like to project that fu attitude. but still, we sat and sat. maybe they have improved things since i was there, but they seriously needed a separate service bar.
