Duckworth Tapped for VA Assistant Secretary

Tammy's name had come up both during the appointment process and the discussion of a possible special election. I had assumed that she was still at least a dark horse for the 2010 primary.

Serious candidates will need to start positioning for that pretty soon, however. Does this appointment mean she's not considering a run?

1. gotta figure
i wonder just how much of a taste for politics she really has. it was my impression that campaigning was not something that really wound her watch. i may be talking out my ass here, tho.

2. Tammy duckworth is an icon
No offense to her but she was pushed for a concresional seat by the DNC over christine cegalis, who was a true progressive.. Cegalis gave henry hyde a hell of a run in 2004 and she was a true lefty, ally of jan schachowski, and she almost beat hyde.... rahm, at that time, was pushing the dems are strong on defence meme and tammy got all the RNC support in the primaries because her "story" was appealing

It was bullshit, I like tammy and sorry she is a minority and a disabled veteran... that does not make her qualified for anything... during the election for the rep seat, she did not win, nor did she impress....

3. Yes, we know all of that.
None of that was at issue, nor was it even the question. Lots of unqualified people run every day for things. Some of them even win.

I would never expect Tammy to win the 2010 Senate primary, unless it's a very shallow field. I did expect someone to push her to run. What I had no way to judge was whether she would listen again. This appointment would suggest that she has moved already in a different direction.

5. I can think of about 9 people I'd support before I'd support her.
I'm sorry, but just because she's a minority, disabled and a Democrat does not make her a true progressive...
