Obama - Time for Reform: Senate Candidate Hears Miners' Concerns
Obama - Time for Reform: Senate Candidate Hears Miners' Concerns During Carbondale Stop

CARBONDALE -- Ronnie Lloyd wants bankruptcy reform. He has worked in coal mines for 25 years and said he has black lung disease, a crippled back and battered knees to prove it.

However, an August ruling by a federal bankruptcy judge threatens to leave him with a broken body and none of the health benefits he accumulated during his lifetime's work.

Lloyd is one of 3,000 retired and active Horizon Natural Resources miners who accepted lower wages for the promise of health care. Now the contract that was supposed to protect them is not being honored.

If Lloyd exemplifies the need for bankruptcy reform, then U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama is the voice calling for it.
