IL DUers - Check in please.
We are attempting to set up a meetup at dkos on August 3.

Please post your answer to the following.

1. Can you make this meeting on August 3?

2. If you can't make this meeting on August 3, would you be willing to meet at another time and place in the near future?

3. If yes, where would you like to meet?

I think it very important that we begin to network for a number of reasons. 2008 is a make or break election. It would be good to know where our friends are. Secondly - what if martial law is declared? What a waste it would have been for us to meet here without knowing how to find each other in an emergency. Call me paranoid - I really don't care. I think this is important. AND, we may actually have some fun and laughs when we meet up too.

Thanks for alerting other IL DUers to post on this thread.

Here is Mopinko's thread on this:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=150x14834

maybe people will want to get together here-
i hope to be there, but may have an actual (although temp) job at that time.

This message was sent by your Northside DFA organizer, James Ginsburg.

Dear mo,

Please attend YearlyKos 2007 Draft Gore meeting on Friday, August 3,
2007 at 6:00 PM. You can RSVP at:

http://www.dfalink.com/event.php?id=21606

You DON'T have to attend YearlyKos to come to this event. I have put
the convention site as the location as a placeholder. The actual
location will probably be a nearby hotel. This is a once in a lifetime
opportunity for Gore supporters around the country to meet. If you
support the possibility of a Gore candidacy, PLEASE sign up for this
event.

Also please recommend the following diaries at Daily Kos and MyDD so
that those coming here for the Convention can learn about this event:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/7/19/131519/456
http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/7/19/141510/085

Thank you: the planet you save will be your own,

Jim

1. 54 views and no responses.
Ok. I guess that it is the response. Disappointing.

6. Not from Illinois,
but I will be at YearlyKos.

I think I've got two different events already at 6 p.m. on Friday -- a draft Gore meeting and a netroots candidates meet and greet that's being organized by some folks at Facebook. I definitely would like to meet up with DUers at some point, though.

8. Yeah, all five or so of us!
Let's play it by ear and see how it goes.

I have a button that evlbstrd made for me with my screen name and avatar on it. I plan to wear it at YKos so you should be able to pick me out.

Hope to meet you there.

3. I guess
that there will be at least three of us there then!

Why are the IL DUers reluctant to meet or even talk about meeting? It is hard for me to understand.

4. i don't get it either.
it's not like we don't always have a blast when we do. just don't get it.
to add to the above post, the dfa'er that posted this adds that there a quite a few bars/lounges in the mc cormick place hyatt that would work for this. he is checking further, and i will post that when i get word.
i do suggest that people get hooked up, at least online, with the nearest dfa group. a couple of the smaller ones on the northside are merging into - surprise- northside dfa. i will be doing some stuff for them, and will keep folks here posted about that. they plan to have a table at yearlykos, so stop by and say hi.
this group has been working their butts off at the local level, as well as a couple of congressional campaigns. i must give them credit for the re-election of my really progressive, pro-labor, anti-war, pro-impeachment alderman. his opponent was a stealth republican, funded by the same guys who brought you the original swiftboaters. and the chicagoland chamber of commerce. the race was decided by about 250 votes. it was their nudging that got me out to work, and i personally brought in about a dozen rarely voting voters. (and convinced a few folks that were not on our side that they maybe couldn't vote for him, but they did not want the other guy, either. they stayed home.)
they are looking right now at the congressional races. since we are in 9, and have one of the most progressive reps there is, we are looking at 10, where dan seals is running again, and also at 4, where a race is shaping up for luis guttierez's seat.

9.  Greetings...
Thanks LSK for throwing me the link...the sturm and drang in GD makes me forget about checking in here more often.

I'm here in the NW burbs and will be attending some if not all of the YKos sessions. It'd be great to arrange a get-together of DU'ers...Chicago, Illinois and otherwise...at some lounge or restaurant in the vacinity of the McCormick Inn (if such an animal exists).

I've been PM'ing back and forth with other DUers who are coming in and I'd sorta like to give them a real Chicago welcome (anyone know the ingredients to a Mickey Finn???).

Please let me know if something is coming together...or any other events like Drinking Liberally or other social groups.

Cheers...

11. I Know...LOL
Unless I keep a post active for 48 hours, my old braincells forget to stop in and at least check out what's going on. :spank:

Sounds like we need to butt some heads here and come up with a time/place (always like trying to get Cub & Sox fans to agree on which game to watch) and then pass it along. Also, I think we need to pump GD, GDP amd the Lounge (I dare not enter) and see what can come together.

I'll pass along this thread and try to check back here and see what others are thinking. Being out in the burbs, and at the mercy of I-90 or 290...or Metra...I'd prefer a location either near the McCormick Inn or away from the central city...but still accessible to others...such as near O'hare. Just thoughts...I'd be interesting in hearing from others.

Please don't hesitate to PM me with any info or questions...let's show them Kossacks a thing or two.

:hi:

13. We're Almost Neighbors
I'm near Woodfield...I get to pick my poison...90 or 290. Usually during non-rush times I can get to the Loop in 45 minutes. Maybe we can carpool it. This is just too good of a show to pass up.

From what I'm seeing a Saturday early evening looks like a down time and could be a window to work with.

Cheers...

Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 02:28 PM by LSK
But take streets like Higgins up to around Cumberland before I get on 90.

15. I Slither Around...LOL
I grew up in the city and have no fear of driving the backroads. With the Tri-state being destructed, I've been using Higgins, Irving Park and Euclid/Lake Street. Fortunately I work from home most of my trips into the city are at off-peak hours...or I drag 'em out here.

18. Speaking of losing track of threads
after two days... oops.

I live in Geneva - was thinking of taking the train in and taking a cab to whereever. I am not sure if there is a train that runs your way - but if its the Elgin train, that would easy for me to pick up there and meet you and LSK on the way.

Perhaps if its that easy, other DUers reading but not posting yet will join us as we head in?

20. Looks Like We're All Along The Same Routes...
The Elgin train goes to Union station...and then there's a shuttle for the Planetarium/Museum Campus that goes past McCormick place. I'm not sure how early/late that shuttle runs. Cab fare downtown would probably cost more than the train tickets.

I'm near Woodfield...one of my options is to grab the Blue Line at Cumberland or River Road...take that to Jackson and catch busses from there.

I'm still arranging my schedule to get to as much of the events as I can...and haven't seen a specific schedule yet...I suspect they're still finalizing it. If it's evening or off-hours, I would prefer to drive/carpool it...but I'm flexible. Please keep me posted.

Also I'm hoping we can get more word out to all DUers attending YKos...maybe find a place we all can meet up and debate impeachment.

Cheers...

23. Nick come to our DFA meeting in Madison County!
We started out as Downstate Democrats for Change and then affiliated with DFA. We're big tent, no POTUS candidate endorsements allowed, because we're in too many different camps.

This is us. http://www.dfalink.com/group.php?id=1353

We meet in Edwardsville and are working on a Trivia Fundraiser to help with a DFA Training Academy in Springfield in Sept.

I can't get up to Chicago. Not going to happen.

I'd like to get to some meetup in the metro east St. Louis area, though...and, if I can manage it, maybe as far away as Springfield.
