Chicago aldermen plan to subpoena Sequoia executives
Won't these aldermen be in for a surprise when they learn that the CEO of Smartmatic isn't allowed to fulfill the subpoena because he's been refused a visa to travel here?

SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

It's muscleman time.

Sneed has learned that Ald. Ed Burke (14th) and three other aldermen fighting to halt $16 million in payments to the Venezuela-owned voting machine company that was at the center of the recent ballot-counting debacle plan to ante up their threat.

*To wit: Watch for the cadre, which also includes Ald. William Beavers (7th), City Council President Pro Tem Danny Solis (25th) and Ald. Manny Flores (1st), to request that the company's president appear before the City Council.

*The buckshot: "And if he refuses to come, we plan to subpoena him," Burke told Sneed.

1. Sequoia & Venezuela?
This is an interesting twist.

The sideshot: "It's clear this company is hiding its true ownership in a maze of offshore trusts and proxies that traces its way through the Netherlands to the Curacao islands and Venezuela," said Burke, citing a recent article about the company in the Miami Herald.

*The parting shot: According to the Miami Herald, a company called Smartmatic International and its Venezuelan owners bought Sequoia last year "without the deal receiving any scrutiny by federal regulators -- including the Treasury Department's Committee on Foreign Investments in the United States , which is tasked with determining whether foreign takeovers pose security risks."

Check out Who's Counting? - Sequoia Voting Systems for more background. I'll contact the website owner about this very interesting development on Sequoia's ownership. They are snakes, no doubt, and try to cover their tracks without leaving a trace.
