Cegelis refuses to endorse Duckworth after primary
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 07:41 PM by wndycty
Christine is entitled to do what she wants and she is by no means obligated to endorse Tammy, however I have one simple question. Would it have been acceptable for Tammy to not endorse Cegelis? I know Christine as put her blood, sweat and tears into this race so I understand her frustration but I just wonder what the reaction would have been if Tammy held withheld her support had Christine won. You can accuse me of derisiveness, but I highly doubt my posts on DU led Christine to withhold her endorsement. It appears that whatever outreach the Duckworth campaign has done to Cegelis has failed.

Cegelis refuses to endorse Duckworth after primary
By Jonathan E. Kaplan

Christine Cegelis will not endorse Tammy Duckworth, the winner in Illinois’s 6th Congressional District Democratic primary, because she has reservations about Duckworth’s positions on universal healthcare and free trade, a source close to Cegelis’s campaign said.

Duckworth, a wounded veteran of the Iraq war, defeated Cegelis by 3 percentage points in last week’s hotly contested primary. Cegelis, a liberal Democrat, won 44 percent of the vote against Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.) in 2004.

On Saturday, Illinois Democrats held a unity breakfast attended by Duckworth, party officials and Cegelis supporters who vowed to help Duckworth. Cegelis did not attend.

1. We'll see.
I'll wait until someone local confirms the story before wondering if Cegelis would rather have us all live under republican rule if she isn't the nominee.

3. This is unbelievable.
Therefore I too will wait to see what Cegelis says. I can't believe she is ready to throw away the last few years of fighting to oust the GOP. We've seen campaign personnel undermine their candidate after a loss before. A few even before the campaign is over.

4. this source close to the campaign, (not very close, me)
would hazard a guess that, if this is a refusal, and not just a failure to make a statement if a timely fashion, it is not for personal pettiness, but in support of the local democrats who have been so very, very shit upon. they are so pissed. and if only howard called her afterward, i would be pissed, too. when they all lined up behind tammy, the only one that had the decency to call her was barack. the party has handled this with less that zero class.

5. Amazingly enough, several DUers refusing to jump all over a rumor.
Where's that "keeping the powder dry" graphic when you really need it?

7. what is the point of this post ?
I dont see what this accomplishes except more division between the Cegelis and Duckworth camps.
