nobody needs me!
my phone is not ringing, no one is e-mailing me, no burning items on my to-do-list. sigh. i hate this part.
seriously, i have 2 new projects that have been simmering, waiting for me to get back to them. i will be in the thick of things again soon. but all endings are sad.
so long 6th. it was a great ride.

1. Post election let down. Ain't it a Bitch?
Gawd is that feeling awful!

I just hate that first few days after the elections are over. No matter what side of it I ended up on, I feel let down and left at loose ends. I look at my 'puter and realize there are no mailings to work on, my phone doesn't ring, and the mailbox is holding only stuff that I could care less about seeing...

This is the first election in a VERY long time that I was not hip deep in a campaign. It was really strange. What was really bad (and I will NEVER do this again!) I was stuck in Springfield on election night.

I had no internet access--I even begged the guy in the motel office to let me use his internet hookup--He said NO. I couldn't get decent election returns on TV for what was happening here, and I was on the cell phone all night going NUTS.

Have you ever seen the old movie "Reefer Madness" where they portray the pot smokers as almost foaming at the mouth when they need a "fix"? THAT is just about how I was when I was in search of election information.

We are organizing a Labor fundraiser for a State Senate candidate for April 8, and that is at least giving me something to worry about in the wake of this recent election. (Kevsand mails out the invites and then asks ME about food--go figure!)

What is your next race gonna be, Mo?

You know you want too.

All the "cool kids" are doing it...

2. i am feeling a little sick, now.
i do wish i had confidence in the results. i am going to twist the arm of the cook county clerk, who, incidentally, is a neighbor. i feel like clean elections need to take precedence over candidates. i want to really take a look at it, and talk to the folks working the issue here.
i have a little katrina project that i am getting going on. see this thread.
and i am working on a fundraiser for my really favorite cause- woman made gallery
but i am looking around. i am tempted to sign on with dick auman, because then i would have an excuse to hang out in galena. doing the dfa training in moline next month. we will see.
i will say, tho, for those of you that have never worked gotv, it is like crack cocaine. so much fun, so much excitement. we got so screwed on the post election party, tho. celebrating is great, commiserating is useful. but wondering, worrying, and having all the people that you wanted to talk to, now that you have time, huddled in a room in the basement trying to figure out what to do is just not fair!! i got to talk to will pitt for about 20 seconds! robbed, i tell ya, i was robbed!

5. I need you! I really do!
I need letter writers to write letters to the editor extolling all of my virtues. Would you like to help?

Thanks,

7. Take legal action against the State if our votes are not counted.
Edited on Mon Mar-27-06 01:58 PM by gunsaximbo
I have NO LEGISLATIVE POWER yet to take any action. If I win the election I will gather more than enough support to legislate paper receipts be required. I've toyed with the thought that BOTH electronic votes and the paper recipes should be counted but there are problems with that idea that need to be worked out.

8. illinois law already requires "receipts"
which is a bad description. it actually requires a paper trail which can be audited. and saying you would hire a lawyer, unless you have a $100,000 set aside for this purpose is not a plan. but you still need a plan to figure out if votes are not being tallied accurately, preferably on election might.
don't feel like the lone ranger. i think it will take me a long time to find a candidate with a solid plan.

11. I think there should be more than one receipt
I understand your point and I'm in agreement with you. I know that I don't necessarily want a computerized system unless it is redundant and mirrored by humans.

I'm not convinced that the old method was all that bad.

Joe

12. ok, you are not pissed off enough about this issue
it is my #1 issue. first candidate that wants to make this a big issue gets me.

13. You will find enough single issue candidates
who are pissed off after they have lost their election. Until then, what will you do?

15. you won't find a candidate that
makes your issue a priority. You'll be looking for a long time.

16. just to be clear
i'm not saying a candidate that makes election security an issue, i am saying a candidate that has a plan to make sure that the votes that are cast for them are counted. this is not impossible. it takes some planning, and some extra work and money.
