Keyes on CBS2 Chicago just now...
Didn't catch all of it. He brings up the issue of abortion, and then has the gall to accuse Obama of infanticide. And finally, to finish up their segment, the anchor asks a shocking question. "Which two of the Quad Cities are in Illinois?" You think he knows? Of course he doesn't. (Rock Island and Moline for those scoring at home.)

This man is a wingnut, and he knows jack shit about our State. Keyes doesn't care about Illinois; he's nothing more than a political opportunist doing a favor for his right wing buddies.

1. Do you think he'll get many votes?
Other than strident right to lifers, what does Keyes have to offer anyone?

2. He's here to shore up the base.
The Illinois GOP still needs their voters to turn out and affect statewide races and such.

17. He'll have the opposite effect
I predict that Keyes will only suppress voter turnout among Republicans.

5. Allen Keyes = "wedge issues"
What does Allen Keyes have to offer?

#1. He's a black male.
#2. He will bring up all the cultural "wedge issues" (abortion, gay marriage,
#3. He's a black male.

Seriously, I've been wondering -Why Allen Keyes? and I think the answer has to be more to do with energizing Bush's religious right wing base than anything else. His extreme ideas and rhetoric is well received by the fruit cakes. So, Allen Keyes will be screaming -infanticide, partial birth abortion, gay marriage over and over everywhere..

3. I would love to ask him if he knows where Ogle County is.
I am sure he does not.

What does he know about the needs and issues of farmers? Does he think any of us give a hoot about abortion, or if he was sent by God to run for the Senate?

Obama visited our county. Keyes could not find it, or his ass with both hands, even if he tried.

7. You from Ogle County?
How are they doing in the bustling cities of Lanark and Forreston?

23. LOL!
I am not that far from you. Go straight west. I am about fifty miles west of DeKalb and fifty miles south of Rockford.

I am also about 50 miles east of the Iowa border.

If you have heard of White Pines State Park, that is not far from me.

6. It looks like Keyes will pull out all of the stops,
call Obama anything and hope it at least tarnishes him in the eyes of Illinois voters come Election Day.

Hell, I'm from Ohio and even I know the Quad Cities include Moline and Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa.

Think I can run for Senate in Illinois? I'm already more qualified than Keyes.

8. Oh the memories are flooding back
I remember when Hillary Clinton decided to run for the senate seat in New York and the righties jumped all over her for not living there (including Allen Keyes) anyway, Hillary went on The David Letterman Show, before the election and it was fantastic. David Letterman asked her like 10 "New York" questions like -what was the State bird, the state flower, stuff like that and Hillary got them all (I don't know if it was pre-planned but it didn't look like it to me). Was A great moment in politics though because she was being ridiculed by the repubs.

9. I want Keyes
to name at least half of the 102 Illinois counties, tell where the highest and lowest points in the state are, explain the significance of watermelons to Lincoln Illinois, and to name the state bird, fish, insect, and flower, as well as to sing at least the first verse of the state song!

Seriously, I don't see Keyes getting a lot of votes. My guess is that he agreed to be the sacrificial lamb to keep the base energized so that the conservatives come out to vote in local elections.

16. and here I thought that the quad cities were
larry, curly, moe and groucho.

There are some neat areas just south of there. Galena is a pretty little town, built on the backs of lead mines (galena is the lead ore). Pretty. just don't drink the water. Stick to beer.

10. WGN radio's Spike O'Dell interview at 8:20
Spike is asking listeners to call in with questions for Keyes. Just about everyone is commenting on the carpetbagger issue.

Also, it appears that if people cross party lines and vote for Obama, it won't necessarily be a vote against Keyes... a caller identifying himself as an independent who usually votes Republican phoned in and said he had been impressed with Obama's speech at the convention. He said that he would be "very comfortable" having Obama in office.

15. Keyes was just on WLS radio
must be making the rounds. He was on for about 3-4 minutes, and it was a total ass-kiss-fest. Not Don & Roma, but their subs.

18. He asked people to call in???
I just listened, and he did not ask him any questions that required any substantive answers.

It was a love fest. Spike just let him put forward his crazy ideas.

He asked Keyes if he liked White Castle or MacDonalds better. He asked him what book he was reading.

It was a total wast of time, and lasted about fifteen minutes.

I just e-mailed Spike and let him know what a crappy interview it was.

He sure wasn't that easy on Obama. He was friendly and nice, but he asked him worthwhile questions.

It just reminded me why I only listen to WGN for the ballgames.

19. "spike," that fat, oily PRICK ,is a died in the wool wingnut
so is Steve whatever his name is, Milt Rosenberg, and that other afternoon guy leans that way, always using the WSJ oped page for pearls of wisdom

I called him on that one day, and he asked me what MY sources were to refute what the WSJ said (can't remember the topic now, but consider the source: WSJ editorial page), and I said that even the NYT said it wasn't true

he laughed and asked me if I really thought the NYT wasn't liberal. I mentioned Judith Miller, Jeff Gerth, their support for the war, eight year campaign against Clinton, etc.

course, he wasn't buyin

Nick diGilio is excellent, btw, on weekends at midnight or so; he HATES Bush, but doesn't wear it on sleeve. pretty funny show: lots of movie stuff. I talked to George Romero on show a couple weeks ago

20. Yes, Nick is excellent.
He is the only one I actually listen to. WGN is only useful for the ballgame.

I did catch John Williams making stupid wingnut comments one afternoon when I was waiting for the ballgame. I sent him a nasty e-mail too.

I listen to Nick regularly. I have called him a few times, as well.

24. I don't like Milt R. or John Williams either
I listen to Spike because most of the time he keeps political commentary to himself (imo), but he does seem to give a lot of airplay to the IL GOP.

Nick diGilio is great - I love his movie reviews.

25. Yup, he had asked people to call in
ahead of the interview with question ideas. Most callers I heard mentioned the carpetbagger thing and sounded less than thrilled that Keyes is running.

I have noticed that local media is shamelessly whoring for Keyes this week.
