Welcome to Washington, And Now You're on Your Own
Minimalist Metro Decor Makes Life Tough for Out-of-Towners

By Michael Alison Chandler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, August 10, 2005; Page B01

They are easy to spot -- wearing backpacks and sneakers, traveling in teams with strollers and small children, leaning into the left lane on the escalator or looking around hesitantly when train doors open and a rush-hour crowd stampedes past .

These tourists are the rookies of the rail system, and during the summer, 5 million to 6 million of them share the trains with commuting professionals.

from the Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/09/AR2005080901444.html

read the rest, and anyone coming into town for the protests, don't look like a tourist, learn!

1. A few simple rules...
1. If you wouldn't wear it in your hometown, then don't wear it here.

2.In the Metro Station: Stand to the right (walk on the left) on the escalator! Failure to do so may result in serious injury.

3. The bottom of said escalator is NOT the place to do a headcount for your group.

4. If they're wearing a red hat with a big white "W" don't give them a dirty look...and if you do they'll just think you're a Braves fan.

I have to suppress the urge myself! Then I remember we have a team now!

4. We had no problems when we were there. Very easy to find
the Metro stops. Easy to get on and off. And everyone knows escalator rules. Anyone who doesn't was a doofus to begin with. :hi:
