May 20, 2007 - 7:31pm

Adrienne Mitchell, WTOP Radio
WASHINGTON -- Will you be attending a ballgame at "Taxation Without Representation Stadium" anytime soon?

Responding to the proposal on "The Politics Program" with Mark Plotkin on Washington Post Radio, D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission Chairman Matthew Cutts says members are thinking about the idea of re-naming RFK Stadium, but more study must be done.

"No one is disagreeing that this a front-burner issue," Cutts says. "No one is disagreeing that this is something that we should consider."

1. I love this idea.
But I'm not thrilled with the idea of taking away the honor from RFK.

How about if we name the *new* baseball stadium Taxation Without Representation Stadium? Surely that would get everyone's attention.

2. and give up the licensing revenue?
I think we should have a fundraising drive to name it "DemocraticUnderground Field" before a bank gets ahold of it!

I think we are just lucky the Nats weren't around to raise the profile of the venerable RFK in the 90s, it would certainly be Ronald Reagan Stadium by now otherwise!

3. No doubt.
Any idea how much it costs to name the new stadium?

4. I wager they will sell the naming rights
for 4-5 million a year over 20 years. that's not out of line with the $3.5 million FedEx is apparently paying for 8 games a year or Verizon is paying for the Phone Booth.

and, under the contract, the Lerners get all of it .

5. I'm so glad that my hard-earned taxes are going to pay for that new stadium
so some multimillionaire can take all the profits. What a great deal!

You'd think after the -- what? -- 100s of millions or so that DC has put into that stadium, we should be able to name the thing if we wanted to.
