I'd be interested in finding out about this piece of "Georgia Slang"...

So I assume "to mollyhock" is a regional expression?

I picked up that word while listening to a song about Troy Davis. Is it indeed some kind of local Georgia slang?

and what would the word mean used in a sentence like this one?:

"And now see me mollyhockin’ over the haystack" Somehow it's pretty obvious but I'm interested to find out for sure and to know about the origins of the word. I've been told that mollyhockin' is also used further west but that it takes another meaning there. So.. does anyone know what I'm talking about or am I just guessing wild here?

I'd be thankful for any comment.

1. Sorry. I have never heard that term in my entire life.
No help here. I'll ask my hubby when he gets up if he's heard it, he's a little bit older than me.

3. Thank you for the post. You're links are the place where I started to get confused about the origins

As far as I can tell, the Maine-woodsman is the best explanation so far, it makes sense because State Radio is a NE-based band, but there was further speculation that this could be some kind of little known reference to a word used in Georgia (since the topic of the song is Troy Davis, whose tragedy takes place in Georgia). But I guess not. Who knows, I'll give it some more time. If not, I'll take it to the Maine forum.

4. Hubby and no one else in my family had any idea what this word means
I think taking it to the Maine forum would be your best bet for answers now. I honestly don't think this is a Georgia/Southern term.
