Air America Atlanta affiliate announced!
For those of you waiting for Air America on an Atlanta radio station, it will debut sometime next week (the earliest being Sept. 15) on 1690/WSWK on the AM dial, according to Atlanta-based Air America president Jon Sinton. The call letters will change eventually to WWAA-AM.

19. Isn't that crazy?
I mean that a place where a lot of great music started would have such crappy radio stations?

8. according to the radio gurus over at radio-info.com...
the FCC has licensed all stations on the "expanded band" (above 1600 khz) at 10,000 watts day and 1,000 watts night. WSWK won't have a bad daytime signal, even that far up on the dial. It certainly will cover the areas within the Perimeter and slightly beyond with a good signal, and will be listenable farther out than that. Nights will be a different story; the station probably will come in clear within a 10-mile radius of its North Decatur Road tower.

10. well, how many AM signals in Atlanta really have a good signal ...
...at all times?

WSB.

Even WGST is almost unlistenable between sundown and sun-up.

10,000 watts is a damn good signal. But, yeah, nights will be for computer listening.

11. Well...
I long for the good ole days, when I could pick up Malloy on WSB and eventually on WLS.

On good nights I could hear Mike from Chicago even stronger than I could when he broadcasted in Atlanta! :toast:

12. Left-wing talk radio finds home in Atlanta
Air America, the left-leaning national talk radio network, has landed a home on an Atlanta radio station — on the far right end of the AM dial.

Chuck D, Randi Rhodes, Al Franken and Janeane Garofalo will be heard at AM 1690 later this week once technical issues are resolved, said Jon Sinton, Air America president, who is based in Atlanta.

The 1690 spot had been playing classic country music but now is silent as station owner Intermart Broadcasting prepares for the Air America launch. Sinton said the owners plan to change the call letters from WSWK-AM to WWAA-AM.

Air America, which began six months ago as a counterpoint to conservative talk radio, enters a crowded Atlanta market for gab. There are at least eight other talk radio stations in town, ranging from powerhouse 750/WSB-AM to black talk 1380/WAOK-AM to Real Radio 105.3 on FM.

14. Here's an Air America Atlanta rumor...
they're moving their tower to Cheshire Bridge Road area, so they will have a great daytime signal in Atlanta. They do have an application on file for that move.

17. FUCK
I live in Atlanta. I heard AAR in my car but can't get it in my living room. If I stand on the couch and hold the AM antennae above my head I can for about 10 seconds but can't fix the antennae to keep the signal clearer.

now i am so very :(

21. I haven't tried it in the car yet, but I can't get anything in the house.
I always have a problem getting decent AM radio reception in my house (east side of Lake Lanier). I've got 5 different radios here, and the only AM stations I get any decent reception on are 750, 1050 (and some spanish stations that I pay no attention to.)

I'll try the car this evening. I sure hope it works!

I could hear Air Atlanta when driving to Dahlonega last night, even when Morse code is all I could hear in the house. If at home during the day I am able to pick up the station..but at night forget it!

Thank Blaise Pascal for computers.

32. I love my Air Atlanta!
It's the laxative that the Atlanta talk radio market needed to get over its reich wing constipation.

Randi Rhodes is great for my drive home. She's very entertaining and provocative. I've been listening to Al Franken's show at work on my PC, but it's even better that I can listen in my car. I flip between Morning Sedition and NPR in the mornings cause I just can't completely give up my daily dose of Morning Edition.

I work in Duluth and live in midtown. The signal comes in clear the whole way.
