Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor issued a statement Friday offering condolences to Gennert's family and saying he was "deeply saddened by this tragedy."

"My broken heart goes out to the family involved for the loss of their son. I cannot imagine how devastated his family must be. I want everyone to please keep that family in their prayers as we deal with this. No parent should ever have to go through this anguish," he said.

Mark Taylor, lieutenant governor since 1998, has announced plans to seek the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue next year.

His son was treated at the Medical University of South Carolina and was still being held there under arrest Friday night, said the lieutenant governor's spokesman Rick Dent. He said a bond hearing that had been scheduled for Friday had been postponed.

2. Damn. This bring backs so much bad stuff.
I knew a family of 3...father, mother, son (12 yrs. old), coming home from a college football game--mom was asleep in back seat---dad driving and son in passenger front seat. Drunk driver crossed the median and hit them head on. Mom suffered broken arm and a few cuts, ohterwise OK. But, son was killed instantly---attended his funeral the day before Thanksgiving. Dad was medivaced by chopper to another nearby hospital. He hung on for another month--visiting him in ICU and talking to his wife was terrible. Attended his funeral on Christmas Eve.

Thanksgiving and Christmas will never be the same for this woman who lost her only child and was widowed because of the DAMNED STUPID decision to drink and drive. The drunk driver was also killed instantly.

What a waste!! Please people, do whatever you have to do to keep an intoxicated person off the roads. If you drink, do it responsibly, and even if you "lose a friend" by saving his/her life--take the damned keys away from someone you know who has had one too many.

The price is too damned high! Every time I look in the paper and see that a 2nd or 3rd time offender getting another "slap on the wrist" I want to scream.
