GA Governor to hold prayer vigil on 8/18 to remember Iraq war casualties
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/0805/14wardead.html

At 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Gov. Sonny Perdue will lead a prayer vigil at the state Capitol to honor the Georgians who have died and been wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. He called for a statewide moment of silence at 1 p.m. In announcing the observance, Perdue surprised reporters and his own staff by melting into tears. He was moved by the recent deaths of 11 Georgians in 11 days, all victims of bombs in Iraq, all members of the Army National Guard's 48th Brigade Combat Team.

1. Sonny stands with Bush.

Killing our troops and pulling Georgia back the good old days of the 19th century.

2. I'm no fan of Perdue, and if he supports this war, he's a hypocrite
but I have to believe he's at least somewhat sincere if he's willing to acknowledge the human cost of the war and publicly commemorate its victims.

3. Commemorating the war dead inevitably involves
commemorating the cause for which they died -- which is -- roll the dice and pick any one of the many excuses Bush has given. None of them justify the death of so much as one of our boys or girls. None of them, not one.

Gov. Perdue is at least acknowledging the pain of the loss. That's more than Bush can seem to do. Sounds like Georgians need to ask Gov. Perdue to explain the "Noble Cause" these young people died for. I wonder what he will say. 11 in 11 days. How horrible. How sad.

4. Somebody better notify the freepers
so they can go protest the "politicizing of the Iraqi soldiers' deaths" . . .

5. So he cried a little...
He should have! SHAME! SHAME, you bastard.

How old are Perdue's children? Is there a reason that they haven't served in the Glorious Patriotic War on Terror?

My father had a good idea the other day:

All of the fallen should have to lie in state at the Capitol, and then at the Governor's mansion.

THE POLITICIANS SHOULD HAVE TO WALK AROUND THE COFFINS TO GET TO WORK IN THE MORNING.
