1. I've got an even better excuse
I experience excruciating pain for car rides of more than 20-30 minutes at a clip due to a fairly new back condition, which I'm just now getting treated.

And downtown's 45 minutes away.

but I wish I could be there. Randi had me pumped when she brought this up on one of her recent shows.

4. The AJC says "hundreds" turned out...
...but in at least one of their photos, it looks like many thousands. What impression did you attendees get?

5. Easily thousands.
There were easily thousands and thousands of people there. I couldn't tell you how many thousands though, but I'm betting that 10,000 is a very low estimate.

At one point in the march, I got my daughter, who was perched on my husband's shoulders, to take pictures of what she could see in front of her and behind her. There were people as far a you could see in either direction with no end in sight. It was awesome!! It reminded me of the Peachtree Road Race, there were so many people. There were also people along the streets holding signs as well, and cheering everyone on.

Most of the people that we talked to weren't from Atlanta either. We walked most of the way with a group from Mississippi. We heard various people along the way saying they were from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Alambama, and one of the bands that was there was from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. People from all over the place were there.

On our way to the march, we saw four big buses letting people off in front of the Sam Nunn building. They all had signs and banners, so I know they were there for the march. Also when we were in the Five Points Marta station heading to the street, we encountered a group from the local NAACP that looked as though they easily had 100 members of their very own heading to the march.

I wish we could have stayed for the rally at the end of the march, but we had to attend a function back in Gainesville, Georgia for my daughter. We had a really good time though, it was wonderful to be around so many awesome people. Sometimes it's hard to live in North Georgia. It's like you're the only people that think what's happening around us is so wrong. I know better now, even if I don't see it every day.

Oh, and I loved that there were soooo many kids there with their parents. It gives me hope for the future.

9. My original estimate was 40,000.
and if anything, I would have revised upward.
I think some of the estimates are based on the observation that the 16,000 seat stadium was not filled up, but a lot of people, myself included, walked the street but did not go into the stadium. Frankly, it really didn't look to me like everybody would fit into that stadium. I was a bit concerned about getting jammed into there. This event was pretty well organized in some ways, but not in the crowd control way. (I didn't see one porta-potty anywhere.) Ambulances were not pre-staged on side streets. One lady I saw passed out and the ambulance had to work it's way up from the back of the march. Took way too long.
