They recently changed their format and I enjoy the music, but find the morning show racist and extremely distasteful. Distatestful is one thing, but the racist remarks are another.

I don't listen in a.m. - NPR and cd's for me, but turned the station on from 2:00-3:00 and heard 2 recorded spots from the morning show - both pretty racist and insulting. Haven't been listening lately, but am considering contacting sponsors at some point in the hopes they'll at least quit re-playing the stuff throughout the day.

1. Nope. They just changed my favorite station to a spanish format here.
Now it's NPR or CD's. Too much talk on the other stations. Wish we would get AAR!! I think one of the financial backers lives here in Atlanta (?).

2. which station was changed to a Spanish format?
That's interesting in it's own right!

I can tolerate Z-93 most days and also listen to 107.5 - an easy listening/jazz station without a lot of commercials.

3. Lake 102.3, broadcasting out of Gainesville. It was one of the few
remaining small stations. The format was oldies, classic rock, funk, just a really good mix of music. I refuse to listen to the Clear Channel crap.

From AJC article

For years, listeners tuned into WLKQ-FM, Lake 102.3, to hear the sorts of '70s tunes that were hard to find on other oldies radio stations. Songs from Bread, Jim Stafford, maybe 10cc.

But as of 10 p.m. Tuesday, listeners were more likely to hear songs by Vincente Fernandez or Selena. That's because the Lake is now "La Raza 102.3 FM," billed as metro Atlanta's first FM Spanish-language radio station.

While the switch is being welcomed by the Latino community, some Lake listeners are crying foul.

5. Z-93 is my favorite.
Plus, I am loyal to them because I entered a contest on their Web site and won an all-expense ski trip to Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

6. I used to work at Z when I first moved here from Florida. That was
before they were bought by Infinity. It had it's perks, but turned me off of the radio business. A lot of assholes in the biz. I worked in the sales dept.

7. Mine, too, acutally.
They are playing a better variety. Before that, I used to get tired of hearing the same songs over and over - especially since they were songs I've been listening to all my life!

8. listen once in a while
I really don't find that they have really changed much. I mean the format was "alternative" in the 90 and the play a lot of that still mixed with current rock, to me same as always. As for the morning show. I don't listen to them much, but I have never heard anything racist from them. I was happy to hear someone at least on Atlanta other than conservative rhetoric crap (Jimmy made comments last year as the war began that were the only voice of reason in this town I had heard on the radio).

12. thanks
...for the welcome.

Generally I don't care for Atlanta radio too much (well radio anyway leaves a lot to be desired) I wish Atlanta had a AAA format station. It's crazy that a market this size doesn't have one.

(The format fills the void of playing things like new Dylan, Van Morrison, mixed in with eclectic stuff, John Hiatt, some country rock, Dave Matthews, and a host of other less know stuff of various styles.)

13. Atlanta Liberal talker Ike Newkirk
is on sportstalk station 790am every Sunday morning...from 6-9am...I know it's early...but, if you're ever up then...he is worth it...
also streams on the web...at 790thezone.com
I too would love to see airamerica make it and get on in all major markets. Hope they can weather the first year kinks and bugs.
