1. Need the same thing we need here in Florida
AN HONEST ELECTION IN WHICH ALL THE PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE AND NOT ANOTHER REPUG-RIGGED BALLOTING SYSTEM

2. I agree. But the only weay to ensure an honest election is
to be in charge of it, i think.

So how do we go about doing that?

5. We need to build bridges
There are progressive churches whose congregations would embrace messages of tolerance and economic initiatives the Dems can offer. There are conservatives who would embrace the rights to privacy and freedoms that Dems protect. We need to find links between the city and the rural folk (some of whom will vote R right now no matter what). And we need better campaigns (the GA Equality initiative to fight the marriage amendment was a joke).

6. The links between
City and Rural folk intrigue me....do you have nay thoughts on how to do it?

obviously the focus there will have to be personal freedom combined with populism....but how do we get the message out there?

I know nothing of the workings out there, other than the churches and stump speeches.

Unless we do rallies in meetings halls. We may have no one show up at first, but if we keep doing it maybe we can make inroads.

the problem is finding insiders who can do it. I don't know how much people will cotton to a bunch of "outsiders" coming to stump in their town for no good reason, if you catch my drift.

7. I don't know, but I'm going to try the county Democrats
Edited on Mon Nov-08-04 10:33 AM by bunkerbuster1
in my case, that'd be Gwinnett.

I'll admit -- and I confessed this in another post, to Elizabeth Edwards no less -- that I gave up on them early in the year (I had been attending meetings sporadically for a year or so, prior to that). I won't go into why; fact is, flawed or not, I should've volunteered my time.

I'll try to learn as much as I can, and even consider some kind of suicide-mission run in a local race against an incumbant Republican if I'm needed for that.

I'll keep posting and checking in here too, of course.

the actual organization has fallen into oblivion as far as I can tell but there seems to be a contact on the GA Dem page.

11. Georgia is already purple.
Georgia has always been purple. Georgia's state motto is "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation," and we mean it. Georgia voted for Clinton in 1992. Georgia had a Democratic house for over 100 years. Georgia has always been a moderate state. Barnes won the 2002 election for Governor, but that election was stolen, just like this one was stolen for Isakson and Shrub. We need the paper trail and we need Dems. who will fight to see that the votes are really counted. That's all we need to do, and , sadly, it will be an uphill battle to get that.

12. Get involved!
In order to turn Georgia purple, we all need to commit to spending time every week (one motto I've heard - 5 hours a week in 2005) spreading the progressive agenda around the community. If you're fortunate enough to have an organized and effective Dem Party in your community that's a good place to start. If not, you'll have re-energize the party, start a new group, join Georgia for Democracy http://www.georgiafordemocracy.org/ or just start working the local neighborhood and community organizations. From what I see, the state Party is not going to do anything.
