Jeb takes the money and runs: leave universities in shambles!
A consultant hired to evaluate Florida's higher education system says it is haphazard and poorly funded, with its core mission of educating undergraduates lost as universities compete with each other for national status.
.....snip....
She says the Bright Futures merit scholarship program and Florida Prepaid College Plan are well-intentioned but unsustainable in their current form.
Coupled with Florida's rock-bottom tuition, the two programs will "bankrupt" the university system as waves of high school graduates enter the state's colleges, she concludes.

2. I'll grant that the universities could use some reform, but...
I think it would be colossally stupid to lose the Bright Futures and Prepaid College Plan

First, I fail to see how Bright Futures is bankrupting colleges, since the entire scholarship program is funded by the Florida Lottery.

Second, given the cost of college today and the fact that said costs will skyrocket over the next couple decades, the Prepaid College Plan may be the only way people of my generation (Generations X/Y) can even afford to send kids to college.

There has to be a way to fix the system without denying a college education to bright, but poor, students, as well as families who make the smart move to start saving immediately.

another reason why it was a good idea for me to resign from UCF! Just in time...of course now Dr. Hitt has "his" medical school and "his" football stadium.

5. Heh, don't even get me started on UCF.
They screwed me good and hard, without even the courtesty of a reach-around.
