Is Charlie Crist gay?
I'm not saying the rumors are true, but the rumors are floating around. I mean, wouldn't we be doing the social conservatives a favor by outing him? Wouldn't they like to know if their candidate has sex with men?

1. I think its a private matter
If he wihes to say so I'm sure he will. We cannot condem him if he is. I think he is a very decent man, and have not ever heard any gossip about him. Wasn't he a Democrat before Jeb took over?

4. well when some bullies keep picking on you day after day and then one day
you find them out cold what do you do?

poke them with a stick, write on them with sharpies, you know. it doesnt matter to us of course if he is flaming and dancing to showtunes in a tutu. its the hypocrisy that makes it fun to poke them though. and it seems to get under their skin.

9. just because he is smiling and has flown under the radar
doesnt absolve him of the absolute debacle he has helped jeb and his other republican cohorts create of florida.

this man has been an absolute waste of space as an attorney general. he is a vacant empty suit with a smiling face on top.

5. Because Republican gay bashers need to be outed as hypocrites
Also, remember that the Governor of Florida gets to appoint the Secretary of State. That person controls the counting of the votes in 2008.

10. I'll be happy to. Have a look:

http://www.charliecrist.com/docs/strengtheningFamilies.pdf

"We should do more to Protect Marriage. When the institution of marriage was under attack, Attorney General Charlie Crist
successfully defended Florida’s Defense of Marriage Act. As Florida’s next Governor, Charlie Crist will continue to aggressively defend the Defense of Marriage Act and will support the constitutional amendment to prevent efforts to undermine marriage."

8. Because when you're a closeted gay man who's part of a party ...
that espouses an anti-gay agenda, what does it say about you?

It's not the homosexuality, it's the hypocrisy and the inability to lead.

11. That argument doesn't fly.
It's not hypocrisy, hypocrisy is what is going on in this thread & a whole lot of other threads on DU.

If he is Gay, ever consider the fact that he wants to see changes in his party? There are alot of thing in the Democratic party that people here don't like yet they are still Democrats, are they hypocrites?

14. It's not hypocrisy?
Siding with an anti-gay agenda while you yourself are secretly gay is NOT hypocrisy? IMO, it's the very definition thereof.

That said, you certainly have a point that he may want to change certain elements of his party. But as for the Democrats who have a problem with the Democratic party yet are still Democrats, no, they're not hypocrites if they're speaking out against whatever it is they have a problem with.

For example, if I were, say, anti-abortion, but I was a Democrat and kept my anti-abortion view hidden, then I would be a hypocrite. But if I'm anti-aboriton and a Democrat, and I say whenever someone asks, "No, I'm not for abortion, and I'd like to see the party change on this issue," then I'm not a hypocrite.

See the difference?

15. I understand your point, I just don't see how it applies to Charlie Crist.
I also live in Florida & no one has shown me the hypocrisy & Charlie Crist. Don't get me wrong I'm not going to vote for him (I'm a yellow dawg Democrat). But this is a bullshit thread.

16. Yeah, I agree...
Especially since:

1) Despite a few rumors, there's no direct evidence of Crist being gay -- in fact, there are just as many rumors that he's a womanizer

2) Even if he were gay, he's about as pro-gay as you can be and still be a Republican candidate for high office

But then, there's that little dirty voice that says to hell with all the above, because if he can be outed, the Dems win. I think that's where a lot of this stems from -- not from homophobia, but from the knowledge that the other side is strongly homophobic and this can be used against it. It's breathtakingly cynical, certainly, but politics is a dirty business.

Charlie and the Christian Coalition

Tsk Tsk, Charlie:

A gushing crowd gathered to see Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist at Miami's Versailles restaurant Thursday. Members of the local Christian Coalition chapter presented him with a petition calling for a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriages and civil unions.

Crist cheerfully signed. His office released petitions for the ballot initiative to the state Supreme Court for review on the same day.

21. Charlie also opposes homosexuals adopting children.
In this state which has a had a horrible record taking care of our kids in the foster care system, why not let any qualified individual adopt? DCF under Jebbie and Chameleon Charlie has been a joke. It is also has been proven time and time againg that homosexuals are actually less likely to molest children than straight males. It'd certainly be better for the child to be placed in a loving family versus the terrible foster care system we have here.

23. Charlie "cheerfully" signed petition to ban gay marriage, civil unions.
The Christian Coalition is working hard to put their amendment to Florida's Constitution on the ballot in time for the presidential election in 2008.

22. A gay Republican for Governor, or a straight Dem?
I think it would be more embarrassing against the Repug party for a gay Repug Governor come out of the closet while he/she is still in office or newly-elected.

Although I will vote Democrat despite the temptation to embarrass the Repugs.

A Repug agenda will be bad news for Florida, it will be more development, more handouts for the corporations, more favortisms. Although I don't expect any radical behaviour from Davis if he is elected.
