Poll question: Who will win the GOP nomination for Senate?
This looks like a race between two men: Mel Martinez and Bill McCollum. My money's on Martinez. He has the support of Bush, along with key Republican Senator George Allen of Virginia. I believe Martinez will be seen as the most electable candidate by many Republican voters.
I also think Martinez is the toughest opponent. McCollum is already a loser and I don't see him suddenly catching fire in 2004.
I'd hate to see Byrd get the nomination. It's a lot like Toomey in Pennsylvania. Byrd would probably be an easier candidate to beat; however, the prospects of him actually winning the General should be scary to any Democrat. He's the Tom Delay of the Florida Legislature. :scared:
1. Unfortunatly Martinez. It sucks, because our leading nominee has
no real chance in my eyes of beating a hispanic who runs a moderate republican. Castor seems like a nice enough lady, but I don't think she has what it takes. The policial science of the election is stacked against her and she hasn't demonstrated the political prowess or other kinds of personal traits that would overcome that.
