Clinton fires up crowd in St. Pete stump speech for Meek

ST. PETERSBURG - Former President Bill Clinton told a crowd of several hundred in St. Petersburg today that U.S. Senate candidate Kendrick Meek will help Democrats retain a majority in Congress.

"The Republicans want to retake Congress. Well, let me tell you, I've seen this movie before and if it keeps going, it's going to have a really bad ending," Clinton told supporters who packed into an auditorium in the Campus Activities Center at the University of South Florida.

Clinton is visiting Florida this week to boost the Democrat's campaign as it struggles against GOP frontrunner Marco Rubio.

"He's the only person in this race who has done things to make this country safe," Clinton said of Meek.

Several high-ranking Democrats, including Karen Thurman, chairwoman of the Florida Democratic Party, warmed up the crowd, saying Meek has a record of fighting for Floridians.

"He took on the banks, he took on the oil companies and he has taken on education reform," Thurman said. "He opposed offshore oil drilling before it was popular."

1. Meek or Crist?
Meek is polling well below Crist. I have my absentee ballot in front of me. Do not know which one to vote for!

2. I Already Voted Absentee BEFORE Clinton, So His Appearance With Meek
means nothing to me. Plus I know quite a few others, and most of my close family who think this is a two-way race ONLY. And Meek isn't one of the two. My close family members have already voted too.

May not be what Meek would like to hear, but he has never been a strong candidate and since I live on the West Coast, I have heard pratically NOTHING ABOUT HIM, nor have I seen signs along the road. Even though he was in Tampa! Pretty late to campaign with so many people voting absentee.

ANYBODY BUT RUBIO!! Meek has been 3rd from the get-go, and I may just be wishing but I think this is going to be closer than some think.

JMHO!

3. Nate Silver says Charlie Crist has only 6.7% chance to beat Rubio.
I would certainly vote for Crist, if I thought it had a chance, but he doesn't--so I will, unless something drastic happens, be voting for the Democrat, Kendrick Meek.

drastic happens, I will be voting for the Democrat Kendrick Meek. I admire the way he stood up to Jeb Bush years ago and also led the petition drive for the class size amendment.

5. Crist is more likely to caucus with the Republicans
Crist will caucus with whomever he thinks will do him the most good--and if the R's win enough seats to get ahead, he'll caucus with them.

Meek is the only Democrat in the race.
