Heads up...Tropical Storm Fay just formed
Edited on Fri Aug-15-08 04:07 PM by flvegan
and Florida is dead center of the extended forecast cone. Not being an alarmist, just an fyi...

Bay News 9 -- Tropical Storm Fay formed Friday afternoon over the Dominican Republic.

It could be a threat to Florida, which is in the middle of the extended forecast cone.

Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay said the system has to go over a lot of terrain when crossing Haiti and Cuba and that could greatly influence the strength of the system.

"But once it goes over Cuba, it looks like it will affect Florida in some form or fashion," he said. "Either Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico."

The time frame is from late Monday through midday Tuesday into early Wednesday.

Clay is not putting much emphasis on the possible intensity of the system because there is "just so much uncertainty," he said. "But it's not out of the question that it could be a hurricane over Florida. That is certainly a possibility."

A lot is going to happen with the system over the weekend as it crosses Cuba, so stay tuned to Weather on the Nines.

2. Looks like my area will get the worst of it early Tuesday evening.

Looks like it will be losing some of its intensity by then however.

3. If it takes that track it will never get very strong - at most a weak Cat 1
This morning they were forecasting it staying off the coast and coming in at St. Marks. Then it had the prospect of being a strong 1 or a weak 2.

Look at it this way - it will replenish the aquifer and keep South Florida from water restrictions. ;)

5. How's everyone doing??
We are almost completely flooded. There were Tornados in Stuart & Wellington. Just WOW. I thought this was supposed to be a small storm. And it's not over with yet!

6. It's overcast here in Lakeland.

Occasional wind gusts. Not much rain to speak of. Some neighbors boarded up their windows. If this
storm doesn't amount to much I hope that won't cause them to let down their guard for the next one.

Apparently, dude was a friend of a friend. So, other than reading DU and seeing a huge string of people laughing at this poor guy's pain, I'm doing fine. :)

8. We lost power a couple of times and things are pretty flooded
But, all in all, nothing too bad. It certainly wasn't as bad as Frances or Jeanne or Wilma... Heck it wasn't even as bad here as Tropical Storm Gabrielle was. She took our fence with her when she wasn't even named yet.
