Biden declines to sign letter for Gannon inquiry, while Kerry signs
Update: Sen. Kennedy signs on

By John Byrne | RAW STORY Editor

In seeming break with his public comments on discredited White House reporter Jeff Gannon, Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) has declined to sign a letter calling for an inquiry, RAW STORY has learned. Meanwhile, senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Ted Kennedy (D-MA) have signed on.

Here's what I sent him:

========================================

Date: Thu, 24 Feb 2005 12:21:40 -0500
To: senator@biden.senate.gov
From: xxxxxxxxxxx
Subject: Let's have some action with the talk Joe -

Come on Joe --- It's getting awfully hard to support you in my dealings with the Democratic Undergrounders.....

This is one I didn't even think I had to write you about and now you're not on board?

You've been a hero several times with your comments but not much on follow through. This is just the latest of many opportunities where most of the forum feels you sell out in the interest of bipartisanship. We're past that point now - it's time to fight. I'm telling you -- watch for the support for people like Dean, Conyers and Boxer......it's real and growing daily. Just because you're outnumbered doesn't mean you can't at least take on a fight. Don't be afraid to lose as long as you're speaking out for the TRUTH!

Trying to hang with you but.....
xxxxxxxxxx

1. Make sure to post if he replies.
Your letter was not "over the top", so he aught to respond. You made a good complaint that could be sent to almost any of our elected Democrats from any of their supporters. Thanks...

2. Political calculation IMHO
He wants to run for Prez and he's not sure this issue is a "winner" or whether it could end up as a political albatross. He is calculating that it's better to sit on the sidelines. You can be sure if anything good comes from it he'll stick his face on TV and talk tough about it. He may even throw in some feigned outrage.

You can argue that it's smart politics or a distasteful display of someone who puts ambition above principal.

Personally, it doesn't endear him to me or make me all that anxious to cast a vote his direction.

3. How could cowardice endear him to anyone except Bush financiers?

4. Talk is CHEAP! ACTIONS speak louder than words...
Sure, Biden "spoke out" on HBO, however, today, when ACTION is necessary-Biden comes up EMPTY! How long does it take to read a letter and either agree or disagree? He sure showed himself to be pumped up on the issue Saturday evening. This letter has been in circulation for over 24 hours. I don't buy Unruh's "frustration"..."a few hours to seek the senator's opinion"? I believe he gave the entire nation his "OPINION" on Saturday evening's show. Apparently, he has changed his mind. But why? Only Biden knows the real answer to that question. Peace!

5. Bin Biden has been a sell-out for years
No principles. Plagarizer.

Whines on Real Time that he can't get an hearing. Here's his chance to ask for one and what does he do? Sells out.

6. great letter..
Biden is one of the best actors in the Senate. He's great on camera with his feigned indignation, but as soon as the red light switches off it's business as usual. He never fails o disappoint me.

Biden wants a justice department investigation, of Guckert Gannon

or a congressional inquiry per his office staff at 11:45 am today. I called and this is what his staffer told me. and I quote" He just doesn't want the White House investigating itself.

So to restate, he wants a justice department investigation or a congressional inquiry/ hearings. His staffer made it clear to me that his not signing the letter did not mean he wasn't interested in getting real answers. He does not want this investigation in the hands of the White House itself.

Also his Delaware office closed for weather, his DC office is the one I talked to.
=================================================
My thought is -- Doesn't that put it in the hands of Gonzoles? Ummm...I'm not sure that makes me feel any better. But it sounds like a reasonable explanation for now.
