Larson (D-CT) H.R.470: Election Fraud Whistle-Blower Gag Order
I posted this on "2004 Election Results and Discussion":

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x332851

Hadn't heard of this bill:

Rep. John B. Larson (D-CT)

H.R.470

To amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 to require the software used in the operation of an electronic voting machine to meet certain requirements as a condition of the use of the machine in elections for Federal office, and for other purposes.

Sounds very nice. Right?

Now WTF is this...?

`(3) CLARIFICATION OF STANDING REQUIRED FOR FILING COMPLAINT RELATING TO FAILURE OF VOTING MACHINE OR OTHER EQUIPMENT- An individual may not file a complaint under this subsection with respect to an allegation that a voting machine or other equipment used in an election is not working properly unless the individual is eligible to cast a vote on or otherwise use the machine or equipment which is the subject of the complaint.'.

Sounds like a whistle-blower gag order to me.

Who is Larson? What's in a name? :eyes:

Bill Summary & Status Page:
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d109:h.r.00470 : It'll come up blank. Add a colon to the url and hit enter.

1. It sounds like a way to prevent people from out of state
(like Bev Harris and her team) from filing suit in Ohio or any of the other states that were cursed by crooked voting machines.

It's a way to try to stop people who are organized to take on the massive fraud of the 2004 election. They'd have to be eligible to vote in Ohio to sue.

What I want to know is why a DEMOCRAT is sponsoring this transparent piece of shit. Is he trying to protect his tax cuts and portfolio by keeping Bush in power, or did he simply not read it?

2. If they got the best parts from all the voting reform bill
being presented and rolled them into one, that would be a start!

I am particularly in favor of mandatory 2% random audits of votes, and a national holiday to engage in the democratic process.

3. Most of us here have a clue, but most "elected" officials do not.
It's up to us to educate them. And to also let them know that, if this is done intentionally, that they cannot get away with such crap.

5. Larson is awesome. So is the clarification outlined above.
If the machine is really cooked you can find someone to stand up with you and make the complaint. Since the states will probably have to pay for any investigation in that state they probably should have control over it. You know Rove wouldn't be above filing complaint after complaint after complaint in some states as a campaign device.
