What does the Iraq war cost Connecticut?
Edited on Mon May-10-04 05:34 PM by NightTrain
According to the website www.nationalpriorities.org, the $87 billion that Bush requested from Congress last year for the war and occupation of Iraq will cost Connecticut's taxpayers $2.0 billion. If that money were spent in Connecticut, it could pay for:

1) $136.8 million for school construction, resulting in 3,285 new jobs; and

2) 1,651 new affordable housing units, creating 4,043 new jobs; and

3) $351.1 million for local and state roads and bridges, creating 8,516 new jobs; and

4) 6,152 new firefighters; and

5) health care coverage for 102,141 people.

2. The newest request by Bush for $25 billion...
...to cover the Iraq/Afghanistan war is for the last 3 months of this year. So the cost is going up to $100 billion a year. Most of that is for contractors, so the war IS BIG BUSINESS! Our troops and reservists serving, get $1,000 per month. With 135,000 troops deployed there is no way this war is costing $100 billion for troops and weapons. It's corruption, the Carlyle Company and Halliburton.
