Musgrave brings UNIFORMED Marine to GOP fundraiser.
I'm posting this here just in case you miss it in GDP. Who else is doing this? It may be a GOP trend. ...

Just when you think they really can't be THAT stupid and conniving. The marine is in potential trouble, not the congress critter. Remember when the general did this? Was his name Boikin or something? He spoke at a church in uniform promoting his beliefs.

I found this at www.coloradopols.com

"A story making the rounds among liberal bloggers that originated at Talking Points Memo wonders whether a law was broken when Rep. Marilyn Musgrave introduced Marine Sgt. Brandon Forsyth at the Larimer County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner."

Apparently it is against the law for a member of the military to appear at a partisan function. The purpose of the law -- to separate the military from political matters -- is sound, so should this appearance be taken seriously as a "crime?"

Here is a link to their source at Josh Marshall's Talking Points.
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/007805.php

"I've heard from a number of active duty and retired members of the military, including a number of JAG lawyers, and unless there's something very different about Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) event in Colorado than the description of it that appeared in her local paper, it clearly violated the law.

There's another little detail one retired JAG officer brings up, however.

The uniformed member of the military who appears at such an event can be court-martialed for the violation. It's not some technicality in UCMJ terms. But there's no law against a politician or party leader putting them up to it or facilitating it. So there's no risk for them.

So Musgrave and whomever else organized the event is putting this guy's career on the line as well as encouraging this misconduct for their own partisan gain."

And to a reference on it at www.MetroDenverGreens.org

"This is an example of the unethical and manipulative behavior of the radical Republicans here in Colorado.

At the right is a photograph from the Larimer County Lincoln Day Dinner held last week. And here's the link to more photos from the event. (I'm also curious about what looks like uniformed law enforcement officers participating in the fundraising dinner -- 'Album 3'.)"

1. Guest on Jay Marvin: problem is ANY appearance of Musgrave herself.
She's such poison that it doesn't matter who she appears with.

One point, according to Jay Marvin's show, they aren't supposed to appear at political functions IN UNIFORM. They can appear otherwise. If I recall, after Truman fired General Douglas Macarthur, Macarthur started campaigning and they decided it would be ok if he wasn't in uniform. It was still controversial at that time and he decided not to run.

We should not forget the context either: remember those funny 2004 commercials where Musgrave was steeling money out of soldier's pockets as they were fighting.

IMHO, Musgrave is an enemy of our soldiers. Why isn't that soldier in Iraq? 50,000 U.S. soldiers are forced to remain due to the bush's stop-loss order so this clown in uniform can break the law?

2. Hey, I'm new here.
This is something I've wanted to ask since joining: What do you see as Paccione's chances to unseat Musgrave this November? I'm talking to everyone I know, and I even scraped together $100 bucks, but part of me sees Marylin as just, well, "entrenched". Thanks for the glance.

3. Welcome to DU lancepiercejr !
:hi:

Here's a link that might help...or not. I just left a thread that devolved into absolute immaturity from a couple of Musgrave supporters. But not everyone there is still in middle school. There is a long discussion on Musgrave's introduction of a uniformed Marine at a fundraiser. I think the juxtaposition of this event with Musgrave's votes against more funds for the military for needed protections for our soldiers and for veterans' services...we seem to be adding more and more veterans in desperate need of health and rehab services. So she is happy to use the young Marine for a photo op but not to provide needed support in war or when maimed.

6. Must-go outspent Matsunaka in 2004
by about 10 times what he had, and she only got 52% of the vote. She is a VERY polarizing figure, and not that popular. District 4 knows that all she wants to do is beat up on gay people, and that no other issue is really that important to her. She is very vulnerable, and if she continues to use Chimpy for help, she can be even more vulnerable.

Never give up hope. She is not entrenched. She just has a lot of support from the mouth breathers.

7. How can any traditionally conservative Republican vote for her?
She supports the worst sort of totalitarian government...theocracy. She does so in the name of "Christianity" and some weird version of "family values". And, that is evil. I certainly hope the voters in her district wake ....up.

8. Col Pols has her at 5-1
and M-M-M-Musgrave at 3-1! Screw it, I can kick up another $25, and just not smoke so much this week. I'd like to submit that we have to go to a wartime footing like the good 'ol days! Rationing, Victory gardens, etc. If we live in a representative democracy, how is some nut-case like M-M-M-Musgrave making our case with "ban gay marriage"? How come our roads are falling to shit, our schools are sucking wind, and development is flatlining? I thought we were supposed to be represented politically, and spiritually, we go to church if we want? Dammit, if we can't have a reasonable, sober minded Republican government, and have to settle for this shitty excuse for one, at LEAST, let's get the People's House back!
