A plug for my employer - Whole Foods Market
From our president, John Mackey:

"We are working to identify the immediate and long-term needs of our team members impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Our efforts thus far include the establishment of a special internal relief fund supported by donations from fellow team members and a guaranteed job at another store location," said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market chairman and CEO. "In addition, our stores across the country have made it easy for shoppers wishing to support the relief efforts to simply add a donation to their purchase which will go directly to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. We will make a matching donation for in-store customer donations up to a total of $1 million."

I'm sure other grocers and retailers are stepping up to the plate, but I just wanted to let people know about this. We've also put together 1000 bags of supplies to go to NOLA.

1. Knight Transportation INC is another example of humanitarian corporate
response to this tragedy. Yesterday I spoke with a young woman who worked for Knight Transportation INC. She told me that Knight is offering to replace the homes of their employees who were wiped out by Katrina. they are also paying for the funeral expenses of their employees family members killed in this coninuing tragedy.

4. Sorry, can't help, but there's a good reason ...
WF has put a hiring freeze in place so that we can place the 600 employees of the 2 stores in the New Orleans area, since they won't be open for business for weeks, if not months. The one in Metarie had only been open 3 months ;( but thankfully we haven't heard of any deaths or injuries among the WF "family".
