Could someone tell me more about Dave Thomas and Columbine?
How serious could this be to his election but also the other elections. I know that he had a secret meeting with other officials after Columbine to cover up an affidavit for Eric Harris. It sounds serious like he might be disbarred for it. He might also lose CD7 big. Where did the info come from? I heard mention of a RW paper. What paper?

1. Thomas
Most of what I have learned has come from Caplis/Silverman on khow, but I understand a significant column appeared in the Rocky Mountain News yesterday. The meeting took place very soon after the shootings. There was an affidavit from a police officer which would ordinarily have been used as back-up to obtain a search warrant. Dave Thomas told Silverman he was only at the meeting to determine whether or not probable cause existed from that affidavit to obtain a search warrant. He said the county attorney was there to determine the county's liability inasmuch as the warrant never issued. Fact is, the affidavit was kept secret and only revealed by Salazar's office this past week. It looks bad because Thomas stood by at numerous press conferences where they were asked if the police knew of Harris/Klebold before the slaughter and he remained silent. He could very well have violated legal canons and we shall see if it raises beyond those levels. I would like to see him personally answer the charges, rather than refusing to be questioned on air.

2. Hi eleanor
As cdem2004 has already pointed out, the affidavit was not kept secret until just last week. It was released 3 1/2 years ago. There was never any search warrant issued because, as written, it had problems. Silverman backs this up even though he points out that the problems could have been easily corrected, in his opinion.

The Grand Jury doesn't point a finger directly at Dave Thomas, but they were critical of the Jefferson County Sheriff Department.

Brooks Brown was a Columbine suspect and a friend of the Columbine duo. I can't fault Jefferson County for keeping silent on this immediately after Columbine because Brown was being investigated as a potential suspect. Add to the mix the fact that the Brown family clammed up after Columbine and refused to cooperate with the investigators.

After their "wonderful" son was cleared the Brown family went on a witch hunt against EVERYONE in Jefferson County.

I'm not sure what "questions" you'd like Dave Thomas to answer. I'm also not sure what "legal canons" Thomas violated. It does seem though that you are on a bit of a witch hunt yourself.

I met with one of the Columbine families on the 3rd anniversary. Had a long talk with the father (their kid lived, thankfully). You'd be surprised to learn whom he blamed. Some day when I have more time I'll post a thread about my conversation with him.

3. Who did they blame?
Bill Owens? I would hope. I hope they didn't blame Ken Salazar. Many thought he was the only honest one in the deal.

4. Thanks for the "greeting"
Sheesh - I was very clear that what I heard was on the radio and was merely trying to answer cdem's question. I'm hardly on a witch hunt myself, but thanks for making me feel so welcome. It might be nice if you removed your political blinders and looked at this from an objective perspective - but guess that isn't possible for some.

If the affidavit was released 3 1/2 years ago, why is it such a surprise to everyone, including the news media?

I can't believe you are trying to point a finger at the Browns. You must work for Thomas.

5. Sure, I'm not being objective
:eyes:
The affidavit was obtained by CBS News in April of 2001. This is the actual affidavit....

http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/pdf/colombine_affidavit.pdf

The only one who seems surprised by this is you. Thomas did the same thing that Silverman did, he reviewed it. You still didn't answer my questions regarding Thomas. Since you feel that he should be drawn and quartered it would be nice to hear your case against him.

Sorry if my "welcome" was a bit harsh but I just don't like people spreading false rumors about ANY dem. You may have good intentions, but when someone says Boy-Prey in a landslide and lies about Thomas it gets my curly's standing straight.

Why can't you believe I'm pointing a finger at the Brown family? It's not like their son was outside on that day smoking a cig when Harris came up carrying his arsenal and he told Brooks to leave....

And no, I don't work for Thomas. Who do you work for?

7. I'm not spreading any false rumors
Apparently you are "motivated" to run off thoughtful and reasonable democrats from this site. All I can do it post the news story and let anyone who cares make up their own mind (or keep their blinders on as you obviously choose to do) http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/election/article/0,1299,DRMN_36_3203029,00.html

I never meant to say Brooks Brown was a sweet, innocent kid, but this family did try to warn over a year prior to Columbine and they were vilified and slandered by many. They did not and do not deserve such treatment. There were two villains here and Brooks Brown wasn't one of them.

I am currently working for Kerry, Salazar and Stan Matsunaka, like you really care ...

8. Thanks for posting the news article......
But I can't find where it says...

Thomas has lots to answer for in the secret meeting re: Columbine. Bob in a landslide

There was an affidavit accompanying a search warrant for the Harris home that had not been executed nearly 1 year prior to Columbine.

He may be disbarred before the election

But the article does say....

"It's fairly well known that those opposed to Dave Thomas are engaged in a whisper campaign to tie him to the Columbine investigation," he said. "They don't put out press releases. They leave anonymous phone messages and drop hints to reporters."

There was never any search warrant issued and I guess I was just reading too much into your previous comments.

And I've never "run off" anyone from DU. I hope you'll stay and provide more thoughtful and reasonable commentary....
