1. The questions were totally scripted-Nothing about E-Voting
Edited on Thu Apr-07-05 03:28 PM by JunkYardDogg
There were little or no questions about Electronic Election Protection issues
He gave a somewhat vague answer to HB1438 compliance, nothing was mentioned about the Jan 21, 2005 Standards, see:
http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/ks_dre_papers/avvpat_standards_1_21_05.pdf
which are NOT in the Election Code
nothing was said about Grandfather clauses,
nothing was said about post ponding SB1438 Compliance
it was spoonfed questions
No mention of Diebold's Fraudulent Business practices in sales and misrepresentation of uncertified Equipment in California.
McPherson seems to be extremely impressed by Bradley Clark, Alameda County RoV who used UNCERTIFIED Software in 2 Elections and when asked about it- his reply was that it was just a matter of shuffling papers. McPherson plans on giving this guy a lot of power within the SoS. Clark has gotta go.
Good Job

2. Welcome to the new Fascist California
Linked to Social Security and DMV databases? Why is that necessary? Will the triangles and stars be next?

And it is a lie that the SofS didn't certify any companies. He certified Sequoia before he resigned. It's on the Sof S website.

Secretary of State Kevin Shelley Issues Re-Certification Order for ...

... CA – Secretary of State Kevin Shelley today issued an order recertifying ...
and Shasta Counties use an electronic voting system, made by Sequoia Voting ...

And the original cause for the decertification:

4. Reading through this is not at all reassuring....
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 12:53 PM by Ojai Person
all the tough questions were side-stepped. It's good they referenced the CalVoter report about why a lot of people don't vote, but otherwise mainly the interest was in the money. The voter ID issues were also avoided, by letting him give non-specific answers.

Very unsatisfying.

And isn't it wonderful that he will rely on several county officials who are pals with the EAC? The EAC, who sees fit to waste its scant resources investigating the one Secretary of State in the country who did something about making HAVA implementation less of the Trojan horse that it is, but who refuses to look at Blackwell who has so many gross abuses of administering the office in an impartial way.

I almost feel slimed from reading these questions and answers.

7. It is what wasn't asked that is telling
This was like the hearing
All this does is make McPherson a hero by having him say he's going to do everything that Shelley didn't do
like not printing up enough Voter Pamphlets
and providing HAVA money for STATE CERTIFIED AVVPAT machines
McPherson NEVER says that he will only provide money for State Certified AVVPAT systems
He didn't say anything about Grandfathering in non-compliant systems
He didn't say ANYTHING about the Jan. 21, 2005 AVVPAT Standards
This was a total stroke job
