Feinstein: Rumsfeld shouldn't quit
By Lisa Friedman
Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON -- California Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Tuesday she will not join the growing chorus of Democrats who are demanding that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld resign over the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal.

Rumsfeld's ouster, she said, would not address either how the abuses occurred at Abu Ghraib prison near Baghdad or how to prevent them in the future.

"We need to look at what the command structure was," Feinstein said, adding that Rumsfeld's dismissal is "not going to solve the problem."

Sen. Barbara Boxer, who is running for re-election, has not yet decided whether to call for Rumsfeld's dismissal, her spokesman said.

However, she released a statement last Thursday calling on President George W. Bush "to take charge and fire all those responsible, including those at the top of the chain of command."

1. DiFi is another Senator who supported the invasion of Iraq...

...in betrayal of the overwhelming majority of her constituents. Nothing she says on the topic can be trusted at face value IMO. DiFi is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

3. Read the article
She says basically that Rumsfeld shouldn't be the lone guy to get the hatchet, which I agree with whole heartedly. It is Bush's entire foriegn policy team. Feith is more a problem than Rumsfeld and has more direct connections to torture apparatus. I think they are going after Rumsfeld because Rumsfeld is calling to get out of Iraq ASAP.

2. California's very own Zell Miller
Why doesn't she just change her party label and be done with it. I wrote her after her vote for the bogus/sham prescription bill and told her I would never vote for her again, and that I hoped she got a million letters like mine. Oddly, that was the first time I wrote to her that I did not get a response back. Guess once you fall out from under the spell, she just doesn't give a s*it anymore. So like a Rethug.
