there and raised my family there.

I saw this article on yahoo.

Schwarzenegger to Hold Special Election

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=536&ncid=536&e=3&u=/ap/20050301/ap_on_re_us/schwarzenegger_special_election

What particularly caught my eye was this

snip

"give authority for drawing legislative and congressional districts to a panel of retired judges;"

snip

I lived in CA for 45 of my 52 years and have only resided out of the state for close to 4 years.
WTF is going on there, when re-districting or gerrymandering is to be given to 'retired' judges? What makes retired judges more knowledgeable than the state legislators?

1. A good question.
Unless the "retired judges" are accountable to the public in some
way, I would call this more "deform" than "reform". The morons in
the legislature at least we have a way to throw them out if they
piss enough people off. I am always suspicious of unaccountable
power.
